How am I supposed to pay for Gas and food, If I have NO god damned money..

I made the account so I didnt have to go to my parents to cash my checks, Now I am STILL asking my mom for $20 for gas money..

Have fun. That sounds like the kind of bank that will also put a hold on every cheque you cash. I am so lucky that I don't have to deal with that. I decided once to venture out and try a different bank and all the stupid holds, etc. stopped me in my tracks.

Did you open your new account with cash or deposit a check? I am allowed instant access to funds put in as cash or direct deposit. Not sure about the fine print with a new account though.

My bank recently started putting a hold on bank/cashiers checks and money orders. WTF is that??? Those are suppose to be as good as cash, which should be available immediately.

I thought it was because of the scamming that is going on with bank checks, (which I would certainly understand because it almost happened to me through an ebay sale) but the bank said it had nothing to do with that; it was just "procedure".

I was a member of a bank that even if I made a cash deposit, it wouldn't show until the next day! Something about their systems updating. I know people who still use this bank years later, & they still have this issue.

At the time, I waitressed & would make deposits on the way home from work. One time I was holding a large amount of cash & & made a deposit at the location near my house. Later that evening I was at a branch about 10 miles away & I wanted to withdraw a fairly large amount. The bank said the funds were unavailable until the following morning. I was fuming. I ended up having to write a check.

I was pissed & looked for other banking options.

This is why I use a Credit Union! When I was working, I had direct deposit & would get my actual paycheck the day before everyone else. Also, fees are half the price of an everyday bank. I have a problem of losing my debt/ATM card & the replacement fee is low. If I'm ever overdrawn, they will call & give me a heads up if its anything major so I won't have to pay overages.

The other credit Union I belong to sends us "thank you" cards every time we make an changes or have any important questions & also replacement checks are free!

My bank does it with deposits over $4000, so I will usually try to break things into multiple deposits of something like $3900. HAXORED!

the bank i used to use was like that... they wouldn't cash my paycheck unless I had that amount in my checking/savings account. That was tried once and i closed the account right then and there. I use a credit union instead and so far, no issues.

and that is saying something consider I hate and distrust banks.

I agree with Paisley, credit unions are much better.
A lot of banks love to put holds on your money. I used to have M & T and they did that. I would have to wait days for a cash deposit to clear. Also M & T used to charge fees just to use their ATMs. Don't know if they still do.

Find a credit union. Or tell the bank you are not happy and are already looking for a new one. Maybe then they will let you get your money.

So, you often have that much money in your pocket. I was all wrong about you. We really should become great friends.

That sucks!!! When I put in a cash deposit even after the day's business has closed I request a memo post so it is available even if I don't need it. That is crap, cash is cash.

I closed my M&T account and went local. They call me by name before they see my paperwork and I have an ATM card with Visa logo and zero fees. I use it for everything from bills to my coffee at D&D's. Because I have direct deposit for my paycheck they waive any other fees related to my account.

That's how my Credit Union is too! It's more like "old school" banking!
If I have a question about my acct my call will go to the local bank directly. It's not a call center when the rep answering only sees me as an account #.

For your daily card usage I would Credit Unions. But do not let a lot of money just sit in a stupid old fashion savings/checking account that doesn't do you any good. Wachovia is now offering a massive 4.25% (last I checked) CD. Also, if locking your money is not your thing then use ING online banking. One of the best banks I've used and they offer a massive 3% interest rate no fee's for savings. You cannot beat that!

Use www.bankrate.com to explore your banking options and which banks are sound and stable.
