I own this hot air popper. It's OK, but it is fairly wasteful of kernels. I;d end up with a bowel of mostly unpopped kernels. Plus, while it was popping, it would shoot out red hot unpopped kernels around the kitchen.

So I bought a $40 "heated plate" variety of popcorn popper. Just add oil, kernels and plug in. The plate heats, a metal wire rotates along the plates to shuffle the kernels about.

It sounded good. So I tried my first popping on the new machine.

When it's done popping you just flip over the unit and the cover top becomes the bowel you serve from. The manual was very explicit that you should wait til the steam inside vents out.

So, stupid me, I open immediately, sending a blast of scalding steam onto my hands. Well, needless to say, I regretted that. My hands blistered over and filled up with that watery stuff. I bandaged my hands but even minimal usage meant the blisters would pop - and they did.

My hands are now peeling and raw skin underneath is exposed.

Let me tell you about pain!

But, the popcorn? It's fantastic. Problem solved.

Actually, Fedgie-poo, when i was a wee little lad, my parents had an awesome popcorn popper that used a hot plate... the thing was this tacky circus wagon. I asked my mom (yes, actually called her at work) where the hell it went? Last time i saw it was 1984.

She burned the cord up and it went to the dump.


I am getting really tired of microwave popcorn... it's not the same as shit you pop yourself, butter yourself or salt yourself.
There's nothing like a bowl of air-lite heart attack in a bowl while watching a movie.

Well, I tell ya, the oil helped it from drying out in the heat and the real butter was just so yummy. I tell ya, best serving of popcorn I had in ages. But in pain.

I've been applying Polysporin then bandaging. That stuff really helps heal quicker! I'm almost back to full strength, maybe another 2 or 3 days...

you can just make it on the stove in a big pot with some oil. you don't need a fancy shmancy pop corn maker to do it. actually, you can even make the microwave popcorn that way too!

Here's a little trick:
Take a paper bag, fill it with kernels at the bottom, and fold the top several times firmly. Microwave it, and you have microwave popcorn dirt cheap!

I tried that. The bag ended up catching fire in the microwave. No fun, smoke everywhere, LOL...
