Don't you just HATE cops who act like a jerk...

I drive a 49 CC Kymco Agility scooter (derestricted) to and from Downtown Charlotte to Mint hill down Central Ave. Was on the way home going down a big hill and a HIT squad cop past me. For people who do not know what is, basically it's cops here that ride fancy high-tech BMW motorcycles and focus on traffic. This cop turns around (illegally might I add) and pulled me over. I was like..what in gods name did I do? Did I not have enough reflection on?

Oh no....

I was going 37 mph in a 35 zone and by law my scooter can only go 30mph if any faster then it is consider a motorcycle and has to have insurance and registered. Right from the start I apologized and said I did not want to lock my brakes to reach 30 mph downhill as that can produce a skid; and I will go get the governor put back on that day. Furthermore, I was getting the insurance papers filed that day for the scooter and going this Friday to get my licenses. No bite..He was determined to write me FOUR FKING TICKETS. So he of coursed asked for my ID which was in my backpack. Now I am wearing a thick armored jacket and I have 2 severely sprained wrist so I could not get it off. He refused to help me get it off and made me take my jacket off which is basically agony to get it on and off. I was pretty upset as I have never had ANY tickets or WARNINGS in my life. He proceeds to treat me like I created a massive crime even though I was keeping up with the flow of traffic. He even said I was going UPHILL which is impossible on the scooter at 37 mph.

Here is the tickets
1.Speeding 2mph over
2.Unregistered Motorcycle
3.No insurance
4.No motorcycle license

= over $500 and a impounded scooter ( note this is my only mode of transport that I can afford to get to my college and work).

So he was half way through the ticket and he asked me if I had a ride home..I said my dad would have to come from the police station to come get me. Then the whole ball game changed. He asked who my dad was and once I told him ( my dad is a well respected old school cop) he though I was pulling his leg. He made me call my dad and proceeded to make me sound like I committed a horrible crime. Once off the phone, the cop lectured me for a good 5 minutes then proceeded to rip up the tickets. He put on his helmet and said " Next time tell me who your daddy is and also if I see you doing this again I will impound your bike".

I think it is more important that I am driving safely and begin aware of other drivers. Locking your brakes and going downhill leaves you no room for errors ( was involved in a bad wreck 3 weeks ago on my old one with 2 sprained wrist). Also, people do stupid things when there behind people on scooters. So please give us room =)

But yes I am still pissed, but I got off I guess you could say.

damn, that cop was a fucking asshole! my first speeding ticket I ever received (and the VERY first time I ever got pulled over) I had to spend $291 on the ticket and got docked 4 demerit points.

It sucked goat balls

Kids, lemme tell ya something, i've got enough tickets to paper a large room... the last one I got in vermont was sent back only after I wiped my ass with it.

i was going to go off on a rant, but why bother? In this day and age, there are very few cops that don't suck. The rest are punks on a power trip.

end of line.

you know what's been really working here for curbing cops and their outright malicious behavior... writing letters to not only the newspaper, but the local tv station as well... Five-Oh hate negative publicity and when you get a couple of residents really fired up writing letters about the shit they are pulling, one of two things will happen.

things change for the better
or
they come looking for your ass

it's a good place to start... just tell your story.

Here's one I wrote to the Press-Republican in Plattsburgh NY a fall or two ago:
(baskstory- the state police sent a representative to a town board meeting to answer complaints that the state police were using the town as a ticket farm and they were tired of it...)

Dear Press Republican,

After reading your article on the over-policing of Moriah, I can only conclude one thing... Spin is a beautiful thing. This gentleman attended the meeting to put spin on an issue that has been simmering in this area for a few years now. Since I relocated from Tennessee in late 2000, I have noticed that not only have State Police become more exploitive, but also have become more brazen in their behavior. Their attitude of has also changed into something less than their job requires as well.

I'm sorry, but maybe I missed the memo saying it was alright for state police to drive at least twenty miles per hour over the speed limit? Or follow citizens six inches from their rear bumpers? Was I the only one that missed this memo? After reading about the meeting the previous evening, I know that I’m most certainly not alone in my displeasure with our law enforcement. Excuse me, but the last time that I checked, the state police mission was 'to protect and serve'. At what point was that changed to 'to harass and intimidate'.

A colleague of mine had once said that when you declare war on crime, the enemy becomes your own people and that is exactly how these state troopers see us- the enemy. In their eyes, it's US versus THEM. How is that right? And who are these troopers going after really? Is it really doing a public service to pull someone over for a dirty license plate? Or a dim plate light? Come on, let's be realistic here. Rather than do any real police work, like solve our increasing drug problem, they'd rather write traffic tickets. Law enforcement gives way to revenue enhancement. Do yourself a favor and check into how much New York state takes in on traffic tickets in a given year. This is excluding DWI's and the other 'heavy' offensives. It will amaze you!

I am a resident of Moriah, and I can honestly say that I have never been so harassed by a law enforcement entity as I have been here. Getting stopped and then getting interrogated? Is this what America has come down to? I always answer their questions the same way, "I'm sorry, sir, but that is none of your business.' The American Civil Liberties Union has a very informative website on what to do during a traffic stop. I recommend visiting it. Also, I recommend www.speedtrap.org and www.roadblock.org for information as well.

The troopers are worse than criminals when it comes to behavior behind the wheel! For example, the speed limit from Moriah Center to Mineville on Plank Road is forty miles per hour. 40. Not 45, not 55, not 65. Routinely, these troopers can be observed blasting up the road, through a residential area with little or no regard for public safety. How long does it take you to stop should a child on a bicycle pedal out in front of you? Regardless of all the propaganda shoved down your throat about a troopers' driving ability, a 4000 pound Crown Victoria or 6000 pound Chevy Tahoe is still bound by the law of physics. Another example is their tactic of getting right smack dab, six inches from the back of your car trying to get you to make a mistake. How safe is that? How legal is that? Lastly, even if a trooper was chasing a car down for a legitimate traffic infraction, does that give him the right to put other lives in jeopardy?

The only thing that I can ask is that these troopers think about where the are, the people they are supposed to be serving and treating each of them and their homes with the same respect that they would want exhibited in their own hometowns. This is where we live, where we work, where we grow up and where we grow old. We are not your enemy. In many cases, we're your neighbors and we don’t deserve this misconduct..

I have had a pretty good record in not getting pulled over, but for when I have I get fewer tickets with the more aggressive cops. The ones that come up to the window with a very polite demeanor write tickets every time. I can only surmise that the aggressive cops are more focused on making an personal impression rather than writing citations.

I did have two good moments after being pulled over, during both of which I was already angry for other reasons. The first one was when the cop accused me of speeding and I told him he was wrong and should check his equipment. Surprisingly he backed down and gave me a warning. It was great because I had read a couple days earlier in an article that half the time cops pull you over for speeding they are just eyeballing you. Because of that if you question the violation in a confident manner sometimes they rethink their conclusions.

The second time I was in rental car in Seattle after having traveled for about eight hours. I was at the turn for my hotel and the light was green but there was a red left turn arrow. After waiting a couple of minutes, I turned left and some cop out of no where pulled me over. I do not know where I got the balls, but I actually argued with him that I was allowed to do that. He did not buy it in the slightest, but he did not have his ticket book on him so he could not do anything. I considered that a major victory through serendipity.

If you were going 37, and you're not allowed to go over 30, then there's no problem with what he did.

Sorry.

i once cracked my skull open and tried drive my self to the ER at Appleton Medical Center (about 1.5 miles from my house). this about 1:30am on a sunday morning, i ran a red light (might of had something to do with either the blood loss or the concussion) and a cop pulled me over

now i admit it was (very) stupid to try to drive my self to the ER but i wasnt thinking most likely because of the concussion, so the cops pulls me over, its 1:30 am on a Sunday in February, im hold a towel that was white at one time to the side of my head, he does the basic "do you know why i pulled you over" shit and i really didnt, he told me and i said i was tiring to get to the ER

i was dress in pjs no shoes and no coat... it was -4 outside, i didnt have my wallet and i had trouble staying awake, i told him i needed to get to the ER, he took my info and went back to his car

he had me wait for 12 min then he wrote me a ticket and told me good luck with the head

so i finished driving to the ER and checked it, the next day i call the police dept. and they said that the officer acted correctly, then i call the DA about it and she said she would look into it, they never did anything about it and for some reason when i tried the sue the city over it they wouldnt let it into court.

i ended up having to pay the ticket

most of the cops in this city are nice and fair, the rest are corrupt and compleat assholes

its like animal control telling me they can't trap a raccoon that attacked me and my sister dog when we were in the backyard as it has no signs of rabis..But when I asked if I could shoot it...He said that I would get a fine and jail time.

One time i got thrown in the back of a police car by a dude like that. I made sure to piss all over the seats while he was talking with this buddy. When he came back he didn't know what happened and the whole care just smelled horribly like piss.

Me and cops dont play nice. They hate me, and the feeling's mutual.

Luckily, cause I'm built like a linebacker, they tend to not give me much shit, but I swear the bastards have a detection beacon on my car or something, cause one always seems to pop their stupid heads out of cover as soon as I hit the road..
