Well not really name it, more like can anyone tell me what it is? I found it on the hallway floor of a large downtown mixed use building.

6 pin Schlage? that's a pretty damn common keyway/brand, it doesn't look like a blank but may as well be.. whatever lock it came from has the crappiest pin combo in the world.. My guess would be it's for a door, if it even is for anything.. Maybe someone was trying to make a bump key and they were just mentally devoid?

It says Schlage on the other side, I just can't figure out why it would be cut like that.

no idea why they would sell a key like that.. it seems almost useless.. maybe someone was messing around with a key cutter making practice cuts or something.. thats about the only thing I can come up with.. either that or it just is the shittiest pin setup in the world..

It's not really a blank, but it basically is.

It's usually shipped with a cylinder with no bitting, or bitted to zero.

You purchase a cylinder with no specified pinning, it will usually be bitted to zero.

You could also call it a space key, used when cutting keys manually to code. Pair that with a micrometer on the key machine and you can make yourself a fairly accurate key.

I guess it could be considered all of the above, those are as follows...
-Blank Key
-Space Key
-Horribly Bitted Key (11111 or 00000)

I'd say its a Depth Key- proper name for a "space key"

Most likely some moron purchased it off ebay, and got mixed up which one was the "bump" key, took that one, tried it on a bunch of doors, and when it never worked got pissed off and tossed it.

That, or some moron has a really sh!tty cut lock..

And for the record, that is all "1" cuts, not "0" cuts. 0 cuts are blank.

Mass unkeyed lock purchases normally come pinned with all 1 cuts.. (NOT 0 cuts- than it could just rotate with a paperclip, or anything really, and bind the pins) so this could of been a control key of sorts before they were repinned.. to save on shimming the lock manually.. but thats a whole other lesson.

Was it found in a new building and/or a building where a new major tenant just moved in recently?

Its a "0" bitted schlage "c" 6 pin key. Like others have said, it comes with a cylinder that still needs to be pinned up. "0" depth still is a minute notch in a schlage key.

It looks like a #1 6 pin Schlage on an L master key blank.

It is one of the depth keys used for making keys by code without having an expensive code machine.

Tom is exactly right, it's a zero bitted blank that comes with a new cylinder. I have several.
Also it's an SC1 keyway blank, one of the most popular keyways in existence.
