Today is my wedding anniversary, and I am home by myself with my 2 daughters and my husband is over 5000km away from me.

We just moved here, I barely know anybody and have no family near by. I'm alone and all I do all day is change diapers, breastfeed and play with animals and Wii all day long.

I yearn for some adult conversation. I hate talking about horses and princesses all day long.

I feel some of your pain.

This week, day shift rolls around. Samurai's off for two days of goofing off between shifts and me, the week when I could actually do something after work, I get stuck on mandatory overtime. I got out of two of them, one of which was nice, we had a nice afternoon of him teaching me to drive a stick shift, but it's still not a nice dinner and sex.

At this point, I'd just settle for the sex.

I'm pissed off at this situation because it's not my fault. I didn't ask for this and someone upstairs apparently thinks it's fucking hillarious to put us on 12 hour shifts, which means you work your 8 and then half of another 8 a day, on less than 6 hours sleep. It's not the nice kind of 12 hours either, it's the kind where you work 12 hours a day for up to 6 days. I had four, I got out of two, but I'm just exhausted and pissy because I hate day shift, and this just makes it worse. I want to spend time doing something I want to do for a change instead of living for this fucking company.


Addendum: I neglected to mention that the person that does the scheduling is a sadistic bitch who's out for blood from me and the other guys I work with for some reason. I'm guessing it's blood from me this time because I went up to her office and asked her if I was going to get three personal days I asked for. Apparently it pissed her off somehow. Sam's got more backstory on this woman, if he feels like telling it, I'll let him do it and leave it at she's a sadistic bitch who seems to enjoy inflicting pain on people, as in forced overtime.

Hell no, you are not being selfish. No more than I am. You want your life back at least temporarily, as we all do. I'd rather just be doing what I used to do, playing World of Warcraft, goofing off, getting fat and lazy. Instead, I work for a company that isn't happy unless everybody's miserable.

Sadly, that's a harsh reality of life in the military. Just remember, your husband is no doubt lonely too and is feeling just as pissed off being away from you on the wedding anniversary.

I remember when I did jury duty and was sequestered. Damn but I really missed Shutterbug during that time. Wasn't even allowed to call and say "Good Night". That really sucked and that was only for one night. Turns out she felt the same way. I'd probably be a total mental case if it was for more than one night.

Here's hoping your husband is home as quickly as possible. Take care and hang in there.

I would complain to human resources to be honest if you have a department. Working such hours can hurt the quality and productivity of work. I hate my schedule as I have to work 10am-8pm Saturday and Sunday for the past 4 months. Means no URE events, Orienteering events, festivals or auctions. Everyone else in the shop gets a lot of days off when they ask at short notice and when I ask its a MAJOR huge deal even with a 2 month notice....

I cannot imagine how difficult it must be for you, Squidgit. Yer man is doing a tough job, and I can bet anything he'd rather be with you and your children. Or at least, he'd much rather be leaving instructions with the babysitter so that he can take his wife out for a nice dinner.

That's what gets to me. Samurai gets days off at a few hours notice, nearly whenever he wants, I have to fill out paperwork and ask weeks in advance.

We work for the same company, two different departments. My department has about 30 people a shift, his has about 6.

The company refuses to fully staff the place, we need at least 10 more people, but they refuse to hire anyone and those that they have hired are getting sick of the circumstances under which they work and beginning to quit.

What they want is us who work under the old pay scale to quit or transfer out, if that happens, they'll hire all kinds of new people at 20 to 40 percent less an hour than those of us that were there prior to January 1, 2008.

So, I have to settle for one night every other week with Sam. It drives me crazy. I never see him, I talk to him, but usually end up pissing him off for some reason because I'm miserable, tired and I miss him. Asking for time he doesn't have or want to give me because he'd rather be off doing other stuff.

I'm just tired of living for something (IP) that doesn't give a fuck if I live or die or have anything I want out of life. I'm so sick of coming last. Everything and everyone in my life considers me after they consider everyone else. I'm just an afterthought.

Anyway, I'll quit before I start raving.

Understaffed..Cheap scape ..

We are so short of bike delivery drivers I am on a bike for 4-6 hours constant go go go full speed. (You know the bike messengers that weave around like mad men). Plus in shop we are so short that the lines gets way behind (sub usually takes 30 seconds to make but now takes a min). Every time we get a new hire they quit in 2 weeks....

Lest the money is good..Got a $30 tip on a $97 order and a total of $88 for 5 hours of easy work.

It's nothing to do with the job, I hate the job. I just miss my life. Well, what little there was of it.
