Hah tell me about it. Sometimes I can even find ways to be over-prepared...

I just happen to be reading World War Z, so it's been on my mind recently.

I think the problem with your plan is that every fucker in your town has the same "let's go looting". You're better off being prepared now.

Agreed. Have the necessary food/supplies to survive a few weeks... When that runs out, just hope *most* of the zombies will have died, or left your hiding place and then go to small towns to find food.

It's really suck to be in the middle of a walmart with 2000 people grabbing for supplies and one zombie gets in...

An Abandoned Island is my plan (N. Brother?). It'd be secluded, abandoned, there are birds, fish, etc.

When I first started thinking about what I would do if a zombie outbreak occured, I went with the plan to loot the nearest gun store. Now that I am a little less naive, having read the Zombie Survival Guide (A must-read for anyone serious about making it out alive (not undead) through an outbreak), I have been given a lot more foresight as to what I would want to.

I see the situation going down like this... reports of recent killings, possibly including cannibalism are reported, along with wounded turning up at hospitals complaining of severe flu-like symptoms. On this note, I would go to the nearest grocery store (Walmart in my case) to pick up enough supplies to last a couple of weeks, along with a gun, ammo, etc. I am an avid backpacker/ue-er, so much of the survival equipment needed (i.e. large knife, tent, sleeping bag, stove, firestarter, etc.), I already have. I would grab the closest THREE people I know I could rely on in stressful situations. Preferably not just guys... who knows you might be the ones responsible for repopulating the earth?

If the outbreak goes from severe flu-like symptoms to full-outbreak, those friends and I would be loading our backpacks with all the supplies we could carry, hopping on our bikes and heading out on the KATY trail, away from civilization, and towards a remote place along a river where we could temporarily hunker down. The reason for bikes is that there is little noise pollution (to alert zombies), they keep you excercized, and they allow you to travel to places cars could normal not go, along with being fueled by your own energy, rather than gas, which would force you to make trips through populated areas, potentially stranding yourself amidst a horde of advancing undead.

After the initial die-off, a couple of weeks, the zombies (who only consume flesh for unknown desires, for undead do not need the food to "live") will still be out en mass, so my crew would make our way to a remote part of the country that still may provide some protections and resources to live off of. There we would most likely need to live many years. Ideally, we would fortify a small section of land, perhaps band with other for mutual protection, setting up a no-pass containment zone.

Like I said, I've thought about this alot after reading the Zombie Survival Guide. Never return to populated areas, as it is vitually impossible to check every nook and cranny for a zombie remaining...

Should us ue-ers set up a rendezvous point at which to meet and band together? I think it would prove wise!

Well, i think I am pretty well set.

I live in interior alaska, so there is lots of animals and a low population.

Between my wife, mother in law, roomie and my family we have a decent lil arsenal, along with tons of vehicles and literal pallets of food and water.

Mostly its just stocking up for the winter, but if there are zombies im pretty sure we can get into the supplies.

On the up side, ive been wanting to see who can headshot a zombie at over 400 yards. It's been a while since i've shot that distance.

Lol i grew up shooting so i can do far better then that. I can happily rapid fire 30 rounds into a 2" group at 100 yards all day. Figure when you go moose hunting you are aiming for a spot about that size.

I find this to be a nice primer for survival. I like how it's broken into different levels of survival events.

Looting after things go south is a great way to die. Somebody already got his hands on a gun, and he really really wants the pineapples you've got for provisions. Also, zombies will be coming out of the woodwork and into the stores, following all the panicked screams. You don't want to be in a super-wal mart with an unknown number of zombies streaming in. Also, if you get a gun "the day of," then you won't be able to hit zombies very well, eh? Practice practice practice. It's your life, so you'd better spend time and money on it beforehand.

My apartment door is steel on steel frame, plus it faces a wall which I can brace it against. I have access to the attic for all four apartments on the top floor so if my neighbors go zombie I can kill them and move into their spaces. I have a big stainless steel trashcan I can rig to the gutter system to collect rainwater. I can rig the metal heating duct to my oven to make a wood stove for heat in the colder months. When I need to go out I can lure the zombies nearby to the door of one of the top floor apartments and let them in from the attic and lock it behind them, trapping them inside where I can eliminate them at my leisure, stabbing them in the head from above with something sharp.

Food being the biggest problem I would try to steal the dairy cows from the nearby vet school as early as possible. 10 cows would provide plenty of meat and/or milk to live on for a while.

I'd probably try to rig some kind of barrier to let one zombie through at a time so I could dispatch it with my machete. In a city of 300,000 this would be a hopeless endeavor but it would help morale, let me get some cardio, and possibly clear my neighborhood for at least a few hours.

Guns run out of ammo, so my plans involve the use of a machete and other manual weapons. This of course rests on the scenario of the walking zombie. If we're dealing with runners, 28dl infected, or something else I would of course have to modify.

Part I:

Weapons and equipment I don't have to worry about, I have plenty at home. I'm figure I'll have a bit of notice as I live in a more rural area and the likelihood of my town being ground zero is pretty slim, even if the outbreak were to occur in front of me whilst attending a college event with 1000s of people, I'd pretty good at getting away so I'm not too worried there.

But I'm heading to a long lines hardsite with accompanying four to six story auxiliary building located on the outskirts of a large town.

The outside doors save one are welded shut, I'd weld that last one shut too and reinforce the other doors.

I figure I can force access via the roof door and then keep that as the only entrance/exit into my complex. I'd make a zip line to the tower from the roof in the event of a swarm I figure I can zip over and climb the tower ... 300' up should be pretty safe even 28dl zombies I could just stab with my katana as they come up the ladder behind me.

They have backup generators as well so I figure I'll have some power. I'll forage for food as necessary ... I'll wait it out for three weeks and either the zombies will have been eradicated or they will have eaten all of the stupid people by then.

Part II:

There's this place in New Hampshire that was once a sanitarium but is currently a home for the elderly it's in a really rural area so very few zombies, lots of tasty animals and they are 100% hydroelectric powered from turbines that go into an underground river so they aren't on the grid so they'd still have power. My goal once the initial panic dies down is to aim for there. I figure a few elderly zombies won't be too difficult to dispose of and without the care of the nurses and doctors the old people will die off pretty quickly. It'll need reinforcements but I think I could make it into a sanctuary.

Part III:
Eventually the zombies will start to die off, I would search for survivors but I'd first spend as much time as possible exploring the fuck outta places. Eventually I'll get bored and have to rebuild society or something.

Other People:

Initially unless I had people begging to come with me, I'm doing Part I solo, for part II I will probably try and round up a 3-5 other people. Part III will be whoever I run across.

Males: I wouldn't take along a weaker male, if there was someone who had a useful talent or something I'd consider it but I'd only group up with other guys who are as resourceful as me or more so.

Females: same thing: I'd only take along girls who can hold their own.

No "obese" people. I don't care. They eat more food, tend to be lazier, are slower and easier targets for the undead. Certainly there are exceptions to this rule, but there are husky people who are I wouldn't consider to be "obese".

That's why I want to hold out for Part I on my own. It's going to weed out the weaker people so by the time I'm ready to start a couple hundred mile journey or thousand mile journey or tens of thousands mile journey the only people I'll encounter are those who have survived partially because of luck but also ability.

The only problem with that plan is if you are less resourceful than other people, the won't want you to join them, just as you won't want less resourceful people joining you I say develop a skill now to be deemed resourceful

I have several.

Infiltration, evasion, planning, cooking, food provision, knots/ropes, triage/medical, improvised weaponry (including explosives), fast critical thinking, abstract thinking, risk taker, adrenaline junkie, and the higher the stakes get the better my performance gets as well.

I'll survive. There's no question in my mind about it.

I often wonder how I could possibly survive happily inside this society at it's current state and know I never will; I for one welcome our new brain nomnom-noming undead overlords.

I'm going to the vernon manor. As you see every single door and window from the third floor down is blocked off with zombie apocalypse grade sheetmetal. I have keys. The roof is large and open enough for a helicopter rescue.

Full backpacking supplies (bags, stove, fuel, batteries, lights, tents, etc) are on one shelf. Guns, ammo and reloading supplies on another. Raid kitchen and fill as many water containers as possible. Mini-generator and solar panels are easily accessible in the garage. Well stocked med-kit is always in my car. Everything fits easily in my Subaru and less than one tank gets me to our remote family cabin, which is also well stocked with weapons, fuel, water containers, wood burning stove and enough heavy duty equipment to create any configuration of defensible burms, trenches, whatever. It also has a river, enough land for animals, crops, large supply of wood, boats for the large lake nearby, etc.

I have given this a lot of thought and I think I am covered.
