Your best driving moves

I've got a few, I'll start out with one.

Summer 06, I was going out to Monroe, NY to see a girlfriend of mine. Needless to say she gave me great directions to her house and upon seeing one road, I immediately hit the "OD off" button and proceeded to do some lift-throttle tail-happiness.

Mind you, this was a 1996 Galant, and it was raining that morning.

I get to her house and I tell her, "OMG, you have some of the BEST roads around here, (decreasing radius turns, off-camber turns, fish bowls, short and medium straights... FUN), I *have* to show you what I can do.

We're on our way to no-where and I say "you want to see what kind of fun I was having earlier?" She says okay and I yank on the parking brake, inducing a beautiful slide on a sweeping downhill left-hander. That is, until the button sticks on my release and I end up going around a few inches away from a curb!

I guess the only thing that didn't make it entirely embarrassing was the fact I went to school with her for automotive that previous year.

There's more, some with actual good driving, and more with questionable driving. I'd like to hear your fun stories.

I've been driving for almost 20 years... I have enough stories to fill a novel.

By the way, 944, if you ever make it to the Adirondacks, there are two roads here that people from as far away as Maine, and folks from Canada come to drive... Tracy Road and the Ensign Pond Road.

Lust.

These can be found off of Exits 29 and 30 of Interstate 87.

Yeah I have no idea where to start.

Either the time I drove home from Fort Campbell KY (to Dallas) in my 280z going 100+ the entire way home, that had to have been 99 I guess.

OR

Or the time I spun my old altima on 635, the most screwed up highway around here. We dont get snow except maybe one time a year and when we do people are complete morons. I was driving in the 2nd to right lane (4 lane highway) doing a reasonable 50 mph handling my business and a semi came smashing through at about in the lane next to me.
It kicked up a bunch of slush and air pushing me into the far right lane which had snow accumulated all in it. My altima hit the snow and I felt it starting to come out from under me. I was already off the acc. and coasting but it hit a big patch of ice and spun my ass.
So Im sitting here slowly spinning and I steer out of it, only problem is that Im facing traffic and my car is now just straight sliding toward the barrier in the far left lane. A suburban went whizzing by missing my mirror by probably an 8th of an inch. My car came to rest perpendicular to the wall on the left shoulder missing it by about 5 inches.
It took me 45 minutes before there was an opening in traffic so I could get turned around.

I chalk this up as Gods work and not my ability to steer out of the spin.

That means share them!

And hmm... seeing as the only transport I have is a "9" speed mountain bike, until I save up some $$, it's gonna be a while. Locally, we have the Seven Lakes Drive and some road with Hell in it's name- I haven't been back there in a while, too far/not enough leisure time to devote to an hour and a half one way to get there.

I hit a rather large patch of gravel in the apex of a turn last week in the m3, went off the road, through a fence, and slid into a tree. No serious damage, but my get the bumper replaced plans were fast tracked into motion.... anyways... yeah. Further proof that us 17 year olds can't drive for shit and understeer is a bitch. I'm going 245/40/17 squared ASAP.

I had a rental back in 2004 when I hit a deer with my Cavalier... It was a 2003 Mazda Protege with an automatic... Anyways, took it up the lake as far as I could get it with bald Potenzas, turned around and headed back towards Port Henry as fast I could get it to go. I was doing around 100mph and cut the wheel. Ever see a NASCAR slide? The car started spinning through snowdrifts at 100mph... It was awesome... Until I caught a stress crack and it damn near flipped the car over on to its roof!

Back when were kids, people used to leave their ice beaters out on the lake. Usually an ice beater was a demolition derby car that didn't make it, or some piece of shit that wasn't road worthy anymore. Either way, me and my friends stole this old Ford Maverick one night. We beat that car up and down that lake, terrorizing night fishers in the shanties, fucking with the freight train crew. Got it hung up on a stress fracture, got it free and then eventually ran it out of gas almost right where it was parked originally. Never got caught for that.

Sometimes it's fun to live where the lakes freeze. It's like a 126mile long dragstrip.
