she lived a good life. but my parent's have finally decided to put her down after 14 years. she hasn't been able to get up, walk, breathe for a while now and they were delaying the inevitable. she was special to me. anywho - here is my thelma tribute. woof woof!

awww. poor pup.

oh it was beyond time, this morning - she had accidents all over the house and garage and couldn't even get up. i think it just made everything easier on ma and pop.

I'm so sorry. I had the same thing with one of my 14 year old dogs. It's really hard to go through.

Damn. That really sucks DiVaMoNKeY. She is a beautiful pooch and that is a very nice tribute to her.

I remember what it was like when we put our dog down at the age of 14 as well. Also, my brother's dog was put down earlier this year at the age of 12. Her diabetes worsened to the point where she was starting to suffer. She was the same mix as Poppy (more black lab though).

This would be a very hard decision to make but your parents did the right thing.

As a fellow pet lover, you have my condolences.

thanks everyone. my dad was the one who took her in. he and my mom have had 4 dogs throughout their 40+ years of marraige...this one lived the longest and this was the first he took to put down.

he was crying...talked to us at dinner and said how it felt like his child or something. but, paul harvey once said that every person should see puppies born and take their old, reliable dog to the vet and be put to sleep.

they're both very relieved and it went well. she could barely move anymore. i'm glad everyone's sharing their stories too.

I took my tabby cat Cheese to be put down two years ago February. 17 years with that fat bastard, and it was the hardest thing I have ever done. He died in my lap on the way to the vet. I still haven't moved his food or water bowl.

I'm glad for your dog that he got people who loved him. Too many don't.

I brought our dog in to the room and stayed with her until she was dead. That was a very hard thing and I felt like I had handed my best friend over to a killer. I know this was necessary as she started suffering but it still hurt.

that's the thing, being with your pet when they go is nice closure and comforting to know that you were there with them when they passed. so sorry about your cat joneserd!
