A buddy of mine was cruising down a rural road and a squirrel jumped onto the roadway. He swerved and ended up rolling his car a bunch of times. He survived but the car was totalled. If I see a squirrel on the road and can't avoid hitting him I won't like it. But, if it's between a squirrel and some poor bastard whose wife it's going to make into a widow, brother squirrel, you are gonna go down.

Yikes! Lucky guy!

Rule of thump I follow. If it's human and higher than the hood, I'll try to swerve.

Non-human and lower than the hood, I'll let off the gas and hope for the best.

Yeah, eat it or sell it?

I was going to eat it. Sadly, we figured we could go back to the scene and pick up the carcass but someone scooped it in the meantime.
I snoozed and lost!

Glad you guys are ok and the insurance came through for you.

Very good rule to follow. Another that I have found that works. Don't swerve at all if you can help it. I have a hit a few deer and both times it was because I tried to avoid it. Since then I just hit the brakes and they have made it out of the way. Nothing I could do for the third one. It came off the side of the road, over the guard rail and jumped onto the car. Back legs through the drivers window and front legs through the windshield. SOB slides off the hood and lays in the road. I thought it was dead. Next thing you know it opens it's eyes gets up and runs off.

A mirage is not an optical illusion. It is a real phenomenon, and one can take photographs of it. The interpretation of the image, however, is up to the fantasy of the human mind.

Yup. That's what the cop told me. As mentioned, when we went back for it, the carcass was gone so it was scooped in the meantime. Lesson learned.

We just picked up a replacement vehicle. A 2000 Buick Century Custom. Not as fancy as the LeSabre but it runs well. I figure in the new year I'll be searching for a second vehicle so we have a back up.

Yup. Nice little beast. We like it. I was talking to another person who had hers from brand new (same year etc). She told me it is one of the best vehicle from day one.
