Chronic Ear Infections...

Sadie is on her third ear infection in as many months. Just started up again today so she'll be on another round of antibitiocs, etc...

Just wondering if anyone else has had to deal with this? They say some babies are more prone to getting repeat infections than others (i'm assuming she is one of those just because of her past health-related problems anyway)

But does anyone have any suggestions for keeping them at bay?

I sit her up when giving her bottles and that's pretty much the only thing i can think of to prevent one.

Any advice would be great. Thank you!

(Oh yeah, she's 8 months old if that helps with anything)

my daughter had bad ear infections as baby. we were living at the mother-in laws house at the time(in which she chain smoked). once we moved out a year later, she never had another ear infection and her over health improved big time. im not sure if your little one is around smokers/smoke but im pretty sure that was linked to my daughters health problems.
one other thing i found good- is to make sure you get out everyday into the fresh air. hope this can help.

When I was a baby, I had CONSTANT ear infections. They put tubes in my ears but that never stopped them.

My first daughter had a lot of infections as a baby as well. It seemed that she just sort of outgrew them eventually. But I still hated to make Dr. Appointments every month to get another round of antibiotics. Drove me nuts.

I'll do some research and hopefully reply back with something useful. lol

wow. yeah my book said the biggest cause of them can be smoking...and we happen to be staying at my parent's for the past 5 weeks now - BUT no one smokes here.

squidget - if you find anything, holla. and thanks!

Do you clean her ears a lot? You should just wash the outsides of the ear and not the insides (with a cotton swab)

Also.. does she have a lot of baths ? Water getting trapped in the middle ear could also cause problems like that.

Apparently, what I was reading is that teething can mimic ear infections in little ones. I have no idea on this one because my babies take teething like little champs.

If I think of anything else, I'll let you know

she does have wax problems with her ears, so bad in fact that we have to go to the ENT and get them cleaned out every month or two.

she only takes a bath every other day, but i do dump a lot of water on her when we're playing, so maybe i'll start to keep an eye on that.

thanks so much for the advice

one other thing is look into seeing a homeopathic doctor. for years as a kid i had all kinds of allergies to various things, my doctor would give me puffers and all types of meds. they helped but the meds would just stop me from feeling the symptoms. my sister is a homeopathic doctor, she gave me a series of remmemdies about 10 years ago. i havn't had any problems since and have taken no meds or puffers either. homeopathic medicine finds to the root of the problem and takes care of it, western medicine just suppresses the symptoms!
it may cost a little bit more to see a homeopath, but its worth it!

You are right on with that one. I was going to mention allergies. When my kids allergies were under control the ear infections were not as frequent or as severe.

A mirage is not an optical illusion. It is a real phenomenon, and one can take photographs of it. The interpretation of the image, however, is up to the fantasy of the human mind.
