I know, this is sort of bloggish, but it's something pissing me off to no end right now.

This week, my grandmother is having surgery, surgery she should have had 10 years ago. Her doctor decided that she didn't need it and that she didn't have a heart problem all those years ago.

He was wrong. She had serious A Fib, was treated for that, the problem was somewhat corrected, now, she has two damaged valves that can be repaired, one that needs to be replaced and needs serious repairs to her Aorta. Now, she's scheduled for a surgery Friday morning that can take up to 8 hours or more. Surgery that could kill her because this asshole waited too fucking long and sat denying this was going on.

What really pisses me off...26 years ago, my grandfather saw the same doctor. Then, the doctor denied my grandfather had angina or any other heart problems, he treated him for GERD, bursitis and a dislocated shoulder. He had chronic chest pain and angina pain in his left shoulder. He subsequently died that spring from a massive coronary in his sleep, all because his doctor denied he had any problem with his heart at all and wouldn't send him for a stress test.

What really gets me, we pushed and pushed to have the case investigated, but my grandmother decided to let it go because it was a "mistake". On top of it, this guy should be in jail for DWI...but the hospital, which he has privileges at, conveniently lost the alcohol level blood test.

Now he makes the same mistake with my grandmother...denying that she's really ill. The worst part, she has 3 months to live, tops, if she doesn't have it done.

This idiot shouldn't have a license and if she dies, I'll see to it he won't after all is said and done.

Old people and their doctors. My grandfather's doctor was a moron, but the old boy stuck with him and followed every word of advice the guy gave him. Ditto my grandmother, even after the good doc missed a spot of gangorine on the big toe (or whatever it was) bad circulation blah blah blah. Long story<short, Gramps lost half a leg and died about a week after. Granny stuck to the doc until I had him whacked we had to move her into the home. My guess is the guy's still practicing medicine.

Seriously...I'd have said the guy was performing vital medical services, but alas...

Yeah, I think "practicing medicine" fits this discussion quite perfectly.
