35 hours graveyard. 2 degrees. No mortgage, one kid and a bunch of free time to write/make art.

Yeah...you WANT my life. Admit it.

It's the swing shift thing.

No time for anything but work, eating and sleeping when you work it. 7 days off a month, one weekend and that's it.

Well...in my case, the boss has had a hard time keeping people, so when a former stay-at-home dad walked into his office and said he'd work the graveyard from 12-7 (I insisted on not more than 35 hours a week), Bossman took the bait. I've been working for this guy for about 2 months, and I'm more or less supervising a staff of idiot kids who rarely show up, which is fine cuz I don't really want to go around checking up on them, which leaves me to finish my job in peace.

Bossman begged me to take a 10-5 shift, and I took it. So now I get home around 5:15 AM, and then I hunker down in my studio and write for about an hour, and then I make breakfast for the family before Toodles and the Missus head off and I go to bed.

Life is nice.

My problem with working nights all the time is I get into vampire mode, where I start feeling isolated from the world around me, Samurai and my family. By the seventh night of it, I'm basically walking dead. Brain stops functioning around the third night and I don't sleep so well because my schedule is messed up so badly.

I watch a lot of movies when I'm on 11-7. I try not to do anything too strenuous mentally or physically. I tried watching The Fog of War: Eleven Lessons from the Life of Robert McNamara yesterday and even that was too mentally challenging for me to grasp on about 20 hours of sleep for 7 whole days.

My work time table just says "NOW"

I work in some capacity or another everyday now that I am a full fledged Production Designer. I wouldn't trade my line of work for anything in the world. I get shit done, have a budget, people working for me (and I don't even have to pay them), I get into abandoned buildings to "location scout", I collect dead things on a massive scale and get drunk constantly.

Life is good when I am overworked.

Tourism, human circulation considered as consumption is fundamentally nothing more than the leisure of going to see what has become banal.

Christ! What did you get your degrees in?
The job market scares the hell out of me.
