Well, on my PS3 I run Yellow Dog Linux, which is based off Fedora.

I like it pretty well, it just doesn't want to use my built-in PS3 wireless even when I go exactly by the guide on the YDL website.

Oh boy.

Let me tell you, since Fedora 9 came out, I have been using it up until two weeks ago. And I mean as my SOLE OS....

Previous, I was using Fedora 8 for over a year. Before that, Open Suse, and for a month before that, Xubuntu.

I "tried" Ubuntu before but it didn't fit me.

This all came after my XP was just getting slower and slower and had many problems, so I figured screw it, I'll try "linux".

Well, I'm sure you're wondering is Fedora 9 better than Ubuntu. All I can say is install it and use it for two months. You'll know by the end of the two months whether you want to keep it or not.

Here are some major points: things can be very easy in Fedora. Compiling, installing programs, updating, all this is great, easy. You have Network Manager, you can turn it off if you want, you have SE Linux, cutting edge programs, and a good support forum online.

Ubuntu: you have Ubuntu specific names for pacakges sometimes that go beyond OS specific. I mean, like, if all other Linux use soxwhatever.so, it might use some completely different thing, and if you go to compile SOURCE code, it could complain. Big time. So you have to use symlinks, tricks, etc. to compile some things. If you let Ubuntu people you have a problem compiling something in a forum, their answer is usually "WHY would you COMPILE" instead of trying to help. To them, Linux...Ubuntu...is about just clicking and installing, not about compiling anything.

You get that with Fedora people too, but not as much. At least you can compile away without issues on Fedora.

Fedora's whole admin is just like many other OS's. You can control your internet from the command line easily for example "ifup eth0" "ifdown" etc. Ubuntu, is all controlled differently.

Fedora is better for laptops and wireless, Ubuntu is good. Ubuntu is nicer when it comes to screwing up your xorg.conf file, it will tell you you screwed it and make you fix it - at least when I've messed it up.

Fedora is more "technical" let's say.

But Fedora to me, in the end, was not the best for me because I wanted some programs that were being developed, sadly, only for Ubuntu (since it's the most popular Linux currently by some polls). That means some things I couldn't even get for Fedora, I can get in Linux. For that reason alone, two weeks ago I changed from Fedora to Ubuntu. It's fine so far, but I haven't tried to get compiz to work with it - which was very fast and flawless on Fedora 9.

Another issue is flickering of the screen when using VMWare Workstation. This is really annoying and it didn't happen with Fedora. I'll have to troubleshoot that one.

Anyway - I say go for it - Fedora 9 is pretty awesome stuff. I just wanted to test some new code that was only developed for Ubuntu currently, so I had to switch.

Thanks for the input, One of the main reasons I want fedora is to be able to use VMware with it. I didnt notice any major changes between fedora and ubuntu. From what Ive read Ubuntu is more for the desktop enthusiast not a professional.

I have the codes to get compiz going, just plug em in terminal and away you go, lemme know if you want em.

I made a step-by-step guide for myself Incase I need to ever reload ubuntu. It brings back all my programs and plugins as well as compiz.

Im really Impressed with Ubuntu's "Intrepid Ibiz" so far, but really could use a Virtual desktop.

BTW , currently have Fedora Running on a USB Thumb drive, and It works at home, work and school. so maybe ill just leave fedora at that.....

Its nice to be able to take your desktop with you anywhere....
