i just got this little baby filling and i needed 3 shots of Novocaine. 3 shots. can we talk about how ridiculous that is?!?! i hate hate hate getting dental work done. i never get completely numb and getting a filling is SO painful. argh.

Well you gotta stop mainlining that stuff on a daily basis. Of course it isn't as strong when you goto the dentist because you've built up a tolerance to it.

Ask for the laughing gas in addition to the novacaine. Its AWESOME!

this very same thing happened to me for my first filling. i was a nervous wreck to begin with bc i am a baby, especially when it comes to mouth pain and needles... so after three shots of Novocaine, they gave me septocaine (sp?) and it worked like a charm. for my next filling i told them to skip the novocaine and go right for the septocaine... they did what i asked. they didn't want a repeat of my first performance. my parents said they never saw a dental assistant so scared in her life.
it lasts a little longer and makes you drool a little more, but well worth it.

i had to have four teeth drilled and filled a while back... I am allergic to novacaine and the doctor did not do laughing gas. Since I was on a bit of a time crisis, I told him to just fucking do it. No novacaine... no nothing. It was an exquisite pain everyone should experience once.

One thing that I forgot to ask when you first told me that...

What kind of a reaction to Novocaine do you get if you take it, being allergic and all? Is it like skin irritations, anaphylactic shock or what? If it's just like hives or something...then buy a bottle of benadryl. If you're allergic to that...and it is anaphylaxis you get...then never ever get your nose reset. They give you a pain killer made of pharmaceutical grade cocaine mixed into a paste that's rubbed all over the inside of your nose. Most likely, you're allergic to that as well.

it has its uses.
for the most part, i do not like to explosively vomit, vomit in general.

happened to me too, 2 needles and i still felt all of it! i told that asshole its not working, he said "its ok, its all in your head you'll be fine"!

My dentist (and compatability with anaesthetics) is great. I've never had any significant pain during dental work in my adult life. I said that to her once, and she replied "I must admit, I'm good. But I'm not cheap." Thank you health insurance

So, er, sorry to hear about everyone else's misfortune in that regard.

I should really go and floss.

We have a few dentists that perform "light sedation dentistry" in my area.

They hook you up to an IV and get you feeling pretty delirious; although your not asleep.

Maybe it would be worth looking into that.
