After being spoiled by my grand prix all summer im thinking of getting a police impala as a beater to give the sunfire a well deserved retirement. Ive come to realize, driving a J body is like driving a roller skate!

anyone have any issues with the impala, the 3.8 is bulletproof

the 3.8 leaks oil from the timing case cover.
also, the oil pans are known to rot pretty bad.
There was a TSB on the catalytic converters plugging causing car fires and the converter for the 3.8L W-body is a tad pricey, at least down here.
Watch out for high-mileage transmissions... other than that, tough car.

If you can deal with RWD in your climate...get an old B-body Caprice or a Roadmaster even...the Roadmasters had either the TBI 350 for 92-93 or the identical LT1 from the Impala SS for 94-96..

I'm guessing you want FWD or snow or something though...if it's a beater who cares just get one and beat the crap out of it! haha

Didn't those late-90s early 00s 3.8 cars (maybe current ones) have some problem with composite intakes???

Haha, go for the B-body then!

My little brother's 94 LT1 RM sedan can squeeze like 27MPG on a highway trip...pretty good for a car of it's size...pretty fast car as well. Even the horn kicks ass...it definitely lets everyone know you've arrived.

kick ass horns are where its at, my grand prix has 2 horns, high and low note stock from the factory, people get out of the way. I live next to a mohawk reserve and my mechanic is the official big car mechanic for the reserve so when it comes to big GM expertise im in the mecca of big rear drive gms. Now that the availability is tapering off he has become the defacto grand prix and impala guy

Haha, those Roadmasters have 4 note horns in them, Cadillacs and I think Buick FWD Park Ave's might have had them too...it's the funniest thing ever when you lean on one going under a bridge and everyone freaks out

i'm jealous.
first thing, change the oil, spark plugs, leads and have the catalytic converter checked. (radar cars idle alot... not good for an engine)
also, make sure the transmission fluid isn't burnt.

They sure are. A friend of mine who's a ops manager for a security company bought a ex-Washington State Patrol 2003 CVPI. I was helping him recently do light bar and radio wiring and I swear Ford has hidden all the good engineers on the CVPI.

that may be, but there is no way a PI Crown Vickie will even begin to run with an old school Caprice 9C1.
