I have a 1996 Subaru Impreza Wagon Outback Edtion

So the clamp that hold the Muffler to the Catalytic Converter has rotted away and now my exhaust pumps out from underneath the middle of the car and makes a loud broken sound.

Now, I either need a new Cat, Or a new Clamp.

The Clamp I wouldnt assume to be more then $50. But how much do you guys think a new cat for a 96 would go for?

catalytic converters are not 'clamped' together... usually they are bolted together with three bolts on a flange. Usually, it's the flange or flange bolts that rot away and break.
More than likely you'll need the catalytic converter AND the intermediate pipe.
For a Subaru, if I remember right, they're pricey, but not insanely so.

Sometimes you can ghetto fabulous it back together with a universal cat (make sure it has a bung for the 2nd O2 sensor at the rear), couple chunks of pipe and a welder.

God damned 12 year old car needing exhaust work... what a piece of crap!

Subaru's cats are pretty basic... an exhaust shop could probably install a universal for under $150. Direct fit is gonna be pricey, Sube parts are never really cheap.

Funny thing is... I have a complete exhaust system for your car sitting behind my shop from a '97 Impreza I'm parting out. Too bad you're in long island!

When I bought the car, I expected it to break. But not this much..

-2nd day driving it, The engine died. $3000 later. Ir ran, But the Check Engine light kept popping on. After about ten trips BACK to the shop, Getting it fixed for free. Everything was good.

-Month or two go goes by. An 02 sensor goes by and I have a hole in my exhaust and have an oil leak,$300

-I'm still dripping oil, But it's not leaking tho. I'm not losing any oil.

-Two months later, I turn the car on one night and it makes the sound that it's currently making and has been broken since.

All this after it took a month just to get a damned title for the thing..

The car has Hundred thirty two thousand miles on it.

The bolts and flange holding it together rotted away, That's exactly what happened. But the guy at the shop, Last time I brought it in said

"Either your cat or an o2 sensor is going to go soon" So I have a feeling I need a new cat.
