How hard is it to add cruise control on a GM aftermarket? I know on most Mopar cars, its pretty easy since they leave the velocity sensor in so you just get the controller for roughly 149 to 220 USD.

I find the situation of the big three automakers interesting. I recall hearing, several years ago, about some of the contracts that they agreed to. I also recall thinking at that time, "That does not sound like a very good idea! But I'm pretty far removed from it, so there must be something I don't know." Well, here we are, many years later and guess what? The big three automakers are tanking because of agreements that even I thought sounded a bit sketchy! I just do NOT understand how they agreed to such things.

Anyhow, more to the point of my reply...

When I am at home, I drive a 2002 Chevy Silverado 1500, 5.3L. I really like my truck, except for a couple minor performance related things. The fit and finish is excellent and the quality of the interior is definitely top notch!

Recently I was on a business trip to Austin, TX and I had to get a rental vehicle. They were nice enough to ask what I drive at home (so I told them) and they offered me a new Ford F150, 4x4 with less than 8,000 miles on it. I thought that sounded like a really sweet opportunity! After driving the vehicle around for a week, I decided that there was no fucking way I would buy a new Ford. Everything on the dashboard feels like a cheap piece of plastic that will snap in your fingers! I'm sure it really is stronger than that, but that really is what it feels like. Those textures do make a big difference since I have to touch them every day when I own the vehicle. I couldn't be more happy to get home and get back into my own truck and enjoy it's comfortable seat.

edit: I has gud grammar.

My looney Uncle used to work at Ford (And later Visteon). While he worked in R&D, he primary worked in PLASTICS. Yes thats right...and everytime I ride in a Ford I want to puke knowing that he's responsible for it.(with the exception of the Crown Victoria, I know he wasn't allowed to work on anything related to that).

see, i never really had the whole bearing problem, or the purge solenoid problem, but yeah, the strut bearing thing got a little old. You want to know what quieted that down? When i put the strut bar in the front.

Actually I have a friend who uses an '02 Cavalier for rallycross (and his daily driver), and he's had AMAZING luck with that little car, and drives the living bejeezus out of it!

Now, he DOES do a few sets of wheel bearings a year, but that little car never fails to impress me. He won the 2 wheel drive class in the Ontario Rallycross championship this year... and that was competing against a bunch of prepped VWs, an Omni GLH, a few Civics and a Lada. I'm glad he beat the Lada.

i taught myself how to rally and ice race in Cavaliers. In the snow, you can get a Cavalier to do shit you'd think impossible this side of an AWD. They are a good, tough car, but they are misunderstood and so much maligned by the motoring weenies... well you know how that goes.

It's possible on the E36 BMWs, should be possible on any car that offers it as an option.

now that i have thought, JC Whitney used to sell kits to install cruise control on any car. Also, i was talking with a guy i work with and he put cruise on his Lumina by finding a wrecked Olds or Buick of the same year/engine/trans and swapping parts.

Back when I had the '95 Caravan, I called up Burnt Hills Chrysler Dodge to inquire about it as I was finding very annoying to not have cruise control. The parts guy said that actually Chrysler leaves installed the vacuum servo installed on most cars even if they did not have the option installed. The parts book showed the controller plus wiring was 199.76 I believe.

And Samarui, the cruise control add-on you speak of from the JC Whitney catalog actually requires there be said vaccum servo installed.

2008 Mitsubishi Lancers have an evap canister under the hood... with no lines going to them, and all the lines coming out are capped off. It has a big sticker that says "Non functional unit"

i remember Fords had this coffee-can looking thing under the hood... i think it was a vacuum reservoir for the headlight doors?

I've seen it on a lot of Fords without pop ups too, like LTDs and stuff. It was something to do with the EVAP system, but I forget what exactly. But it WAS an apple juice can.
