On the way to my 8am final today, taking care to go 5 under the speed limit (35mph) because it was slick out, I was minding my own business driving down Locust street. It is a main drag. Two lanes eastbound.

All of a sudden, STUPID FUCKING BLIND BITCH IN HER FUCKING PT CRUISER just fucking PULLS OUT in front of me! To avoid hitting her COMPLETELY head-on, I braked as much as I could (without going out-of-control from hydroplaning), and honked.

She got the clue when I honked and TRIED to cross my lane to get to the far lane, but NO DICE. I smacked the left rear side of her car with the front right side of my car.

And by "smacked" I mean her car left A GAPING WOUND in my vehicle:






(The hood cannot be opened. The best I could do to get a pic of the shit on the inside was straight through the graping wound where the corner of the hood was bent up.)

She pulled off to the side, I parked behind her. Stalked over to her window, she rolled the window down (keep in mind, this is FINALS WEEK, people),
I scream at her, "WHAT THE FUCK IS WRONG WITH YOU? DID YOU SERIOUSLY JUST FUCKING DO THAT? WHAT THE FUCK? WHAT THE FUCK? I HAVE TO BE AT A FUCKING FINAL EXAM RIGHT NOW AND YOU FUCKING HIT MY FUCKING CAR! ARE YOU FUCKING BLIND?"
She says quietly, "I'm sorry.... I didn't see you.... I'll call the police for you."

Cop estimates about $2,500 in damage. In my experience, they always estimate about $2,000 too low.

Samurai got anything to say about this? I'd like to know what you think about it.


.... Got it towed to the Toyota dealer to fix it. Her insurance company is kissing my ass and taking full responsiblity.

The kicker? Entrprise rental car. Over a year ago, I was in another accident. It went to subregation but the other party was found 100% at fault. However, her insurance company (Molyneaux/General Casualty) NEVER PAID ENTERPRISE.


SO THEY WON'T GIVE ME A FUCKING CAR.
And nobody else HAS any cars. Because people like BLINDY are causing shitloads of accidents.




.... I'm so angry. My dad is like, "Maybe they will total it and you can get a different car!" I DON'T WANT A DIFFERENT CAR! I want my wonderful, reliable, BEST CAR EVER 2001 4cyl Toyota Camry! I LOVE my car! I don't want a different front end, I want THE ORIGINAL front end!

I've seriously never been so angry, ever. I'm so frusterated....



Oh, and if anyone is wondering-- my airbags probably SHOULD have gone off at that speed and with that much force, but they didn't. So I made SURE to nag the company who will be fixing it to check the valves on the airbags... That's probably the biggest risk to my future safety is those things going off without warning. Argh.

That is terrible. I hope you were able to focus during your final, or to reschedule it.

Thanks, guys. <3 Seriously I just want my rental car and to wait for my car to be better. If it can be better. I'm at least happy that this insurance company is being so nice and bending over backwards for me... first time I haven't had to file a claim through my own company to go after somebody else's company.

And Argonian--- I went straight to school afterwards (and got deserted there by Enterprise, who had promised to pick me up) and took my open-book exam on things I already knew (Wellness Concepts).

That is mostly cosmetic, but there may be some sub-structure damage, maybe a strut tower shifted, radiator tie bar, subframe, nothing that can't be fixed and since it is her insurance company paying, it will be fixed. That car is far from totalled.

YOu need to get on the phone with her insurance company and inform them that they had better work something out with Enterprise on the right quick, or there will be some attorney involvement. It was not your fault and you are not going to be put in this position... something like that.

actually, Emma your airbags should NOT have gone off during that impact. Had they gone off, there is something wrong with your car. Airbags key off an item called a "discrimentator" (Sp? i suck) that is in the front center of your bumper. How it was explained to me was It measure the impact radius usually between 35-40 degrees off center line of your car. Basically all they are is a set of contacts that close which translate force of impact/speed and that in your body control module. In other words, you weren't going that first, didn't hit in the measured zone and didn't hit hard enough to set them off. I used to push my friends cars with my Cavalier all the time and that front air bags.

All in all, a body shop will have your car back in a week once you get the ball rolling.

in fact, i put BFG Radial T/A's on my Lumina this fall. Still a tank.

Toyota must be doing really great. They just opened another plant in the Toronto area, meanwhile GM is laying people off.

It does not matter what tires you have found 'acceptable' because a winter tire WILL always stop shorter, basic physics.... more grip = better stopping distance.

i didn't think i was flaming... i was just stating a fact from the weird world of me. if you want snow tires on your car, by all means, put them on... I'm not paying for it.

there is no substitute for driving technique.
i suppose it will be no surprise for you to know that the only car that I've ever left the ABS alone is the Cobalt... I disconnected it in my 96 and 98 Cavaliers, my 05 Cobalt never had it. It never worked on my 93 Lumina and my 98 Lumina did not have it. I have yet to rear end someone or put any of my cars off into the fluffy white hazards.

I don't think snow tires would have made much difference. In reality, I barely had a chance to brake at ALL --- the crossed RIGHT in front of my path, probably within 10 feet. I thought I'd hit the side of her car with the whole front of my car, at first. I honked as I began to brake and she tried to straighten it out in her lane but was too slow.

THAT'S how close it was. Snow tires? Hah. They wouldn't have had a CHANCE to work.

I completely agree with you. Driving techniquie is everything, however tools like good traction help a lot.

You are right, it does not surprise me that you disconnected your ABS, I have done that on every car except the Audi and the Acadia. I even did it on the Outback.

I am not preaching that we all must have winter tires, I'm just saying the car could have stopped shorter had there been winter tires, stopped short enough? Who knows.

I can't find winter tires for my Acadia right now, so we are using the all season radials, but we will find tires for it next winter. (Actually it is the rims I'm having trouble finding)
