offroading this weekend < on 1/12/2009 8:04 AM > | Reply with Quote
I was gonna go out to Mojave this weekend and run the Mojave Road from Laughlin to Barstow, but my radiator was leaking really bad on the way out there so i went back home. We put all the kids in the truck on Sat morning and went to hang out with my friend Roastbeef. and Oz. Oz was on his way out via FWD because he broke his rear driveshaft. Too bad i didnt get to see him do any wheeling. The rest of the day i spent with my kids and lady checking out all the rigs in the park and watching RB jack around, and we did some light 4 wheeling ourselves.
I fell in love with this old school Blazer the second i layed my eyes on it.
RB coming back from following OZ to the entrance.
Just because you have 4 wheel drive doesnt mean itll eventually hook up and pull itself out if you lay on the gas for 5 minutes....literally. If you are going to drive in the mud, dont show up on street tires.
A small crowd formed to watch the big F250 pull her out.
The bumper ripped off and echoed a loud bang on the canyon walls. Notice the bumper starting to come off.
Cue Ride of the Valkyries.
The highlight of my day was when she asked to drive the truck. She, being the one person in my household thats been dead set against me 4 wheeling everything in our driveway, actually asked to drive the truck. She enjoyed it too! Now she understands what its all about. Here is a picture of her first offroad experience in her entire life. This is the beginning of something good.
Check out that wheel stuff.
RB backed into his friend. Afterward he told him he didnt have insurance. Just kidding.
When RB made it up, some Harley guys watching from the canyon road above started hooting and cheering.
RB and friends went home when the park closed. We ended up going across the left fork bridge, and driving Glendora Ridge Road all the way to Mt Baldy.
The moon looked like the sun last night.

this is one of those moments that I miss my 71 Bronco. by the way, New Yorkers and those nearby, this truck is for sale:
after these pics were taken, G-funk bought all new steel. fenders, door skins, rockers, cab corners, radiator support, inner fenders. It does need a carb, however. It's a 305 with an automatic.
$1000 negotiable

Holy Shit that looks like fun! Great shots too man!
Those early K5s are kick ass, I would like to get a Red 69 with the black hounds tooth interior. Almost bought one years back when you could get them for cheap.
