@Yokes Thanks man!
DISCLAIMER: I'm not disagreeing with you guys, but I have a few more things to mention which *might* better explain why thing are they way they are. Though I agree that they still may not be right.
I only have one REAL lens for my DSLR and I didn' use it here because I needed more zoom. From where I was standing to the closest building was exactly 1 mile away. I had to use an old MF 100-200mm zoom lens while using full manual mode on my camera. So don't even remember what settings I used on this.
@Railguy88
Maybe it's me, but it seems to have too much detail, or that the two side buildings are distracting in that the vertical lines take away from the image itself. |
Do you mean the little crappy buildings on the outtermost edges, or the two tall white and gray buildings?
Did you edit or enhance the image at all? I'd like to see the raw version if possible to compare. |
It has been sharpened. Buy oddly I'm not the person who did the post-processing on this shot (but it is my shot). I guess I should have also mentioned that earlier. Without the sharpening, it looked really soft in my opinion. I have raw capability, but I just got this camera (my first DSLR) and I'm not even to the point where I'm messing around with stuff like that. Though I know I should be. Possibly it has gone from too soft to too sharp?
The objects that stand out above everything else are the two tall buildings (w/ vert lines) and the snow on the river. It looks oversharpened or something along those lines. |
Thanks I'm going to look into this and maybe try some more things with post-processing.
The picture itself is also distorted or strewn with noise, possibly due to the edited result or the ISO was set too high to begin with. |
Thanks, I'll have to take a closer look at some of this processing. Some random person from the internet decided to try some processing for me. I liked what he did and got his permission to use his version on my flickr.
I'll PM you some suggestions... Good job otherwise. |
Thanks, haven't got a chance to reply there yet. But I will.
@micro
It would look better if the ugly brown building on the right wasn't there. See what you can do take it down and then re-shoot. |
Agreed
Other than that.. it's a skyline shot so there isn't much to say. It doesn't make me go "wow" or "hmm" or "grr" or anything at all really. I guess the ice in the water is kind of nice, but the photo would probably be just as interesting if it wasn't there. |
Yah, it is what it is. If you're going to do a Roch skyline shot, this is the best possible location for what you're shooting...Rochester. I'm making the best of what I have. I would love to goto NYC and try again
I agree about the ice and the reflection. I wish I could have zoomed more, but I hit the physical limitation on my lens. I guess I need a boat or a better lens
It would make a good postcard though. You should write "Rochester: The Other Albany" on it. |
LOL, agreed.
Thank you guys!
