needing a new engine

Last month as I was cruising down the interstate at 80mph I hear a nice ding and my "check guages" light came on. My oil pressure had dropped to 0.
Since I was somewhere I wasn't supposed to be, I decided to head on home.
I had my stereo up loud and I turned it down when I got into my neighborhood. I was greeted by a glorious knocking sound.
So, now I'm looking for a new engine.

I have a 2000 Dodge Dakota that had a 3.9L V6 in it. Another 3.9 would cost me about $1,300, but I can get a 5.9L V8 for $1,500.
I was looking on everdrive.com.

I know the swap can be done but..
  • Would it be worth it?
  • Is everdrive.com legit?

if your county requires emissions testing you probably wont be able to get it inspected because they go off the vin which says it has a v6 but otherwise it would be pretty cool

an engine swap is possible, but you'd need the harness out of a wrecked Dakota to do it. My dad ran into this with a 98 F150. The body of this truck was perfect, but it had a blown-up 4.2L V6. No problem. He had a couple of 302 V8's laying around... problem was, they were all old style engines, none of them were OBDII compliant. So, the truck went on down the road to the scrapper in the sky.

Personally, if it was a V6, stay with the V6. Have you looked into rebuilding the bottom end of your engine? Sounds like you may have just ate a rod bearing and you were going to pull the engine out anyway...

Let me know what you end up doing with your engine issue. When my engine goes for a dump in my Dakota, I'm swapping the V6 in for the big V8 5.9.

    you guys got RAPED!
you need to come to northern New York or Vermont for replacement engines.
Caligula, I could've got you a low-mileage engine for that Subaru for like $400.

Dodges are always getting wrecked here and they can't give the engines away... its the transmissions that go for a premium here.

Right now I know of a guy in Jersey selling his SRT8 6.1 engine, should have gotten it, $3500. Came out of a Jeep, put it into a 4x4 Dakota and look out.

31TE trannies especially; I know Optiz Transmission Service in Schenectady was screwing over customers with said transmissions when they went in for rebuild service since he just replaced the entire transmission with one that was from a wrecked car because of the demand for parts for rebuilds. He got busted when word has it when an Schenctady ADA went in there for work on her car.

Wicker Ford in Ticonderoga NY was pulling a similar scam... charging people for parts they never changed, labor they never performed. They're not called Mafia Motors for nothing.

Seems you folks have hassles with Ford dealerships as well.

    First dealership:
Was going to charge me for repainting the fender on my BRAND NEW car which they scratched before I took possession of it. Took two trips to the body shop before they even painted it.
Didn't want to honour their warranty when the alternator burned itself and the wiring harness out. Tried the old 'mechanic used the wrong plugs' story and I pointed out that the make, year and engine size were specified. Also asked if the plate number, colour, serial number and what the owner had for breakfast was needed to get the correct plugs.
Had other issues with their service when dealing with the defects in the car.

    Second dealership:
I had to replace the engine on my Tempo which was supposed to be under warranty because the Ford sparkplugs fell apart and ripped a hole in the cylinder wall. Was told that the warranty had expired at 100K. Pointed out the card saying 150K. The guy told me that was just a standard stamping of the card and I pointed out to him this was a legal and binding contract. I also told him that the car only had 98K on it and that I sure hope the mechanic did a better job replacing the engine than he did reading the odometer. I then threatened to call the cops to report the fraud and the guy literally threw me the keys to my car.

Ford = F**king Ornery Ripoff Douchebags!

Gone for a while. Be back when I'm back.

my first financed car was a 1991 Chevrolet Cavalier RS coupe.
    This car:

when i bought the car, it was leaking fuel from the filter, had a shake in the front end and the bottoms of the doors had rust coming through. They fixed the fuel leak, never could find the shake, but stuck me on the doors. I complained that the car had a 100,000 mile rust through warranty from GM, and that warranty applied to the second and third owners as long as the mileage was still under 100,000 miles. The car only had 45,731 miles on the odometer. They flatly refused to fix the car. I threatened legal action and the dealership basically told me, "Bring it, it's your dime not ours."
