so, i was just wondering the furthest that people have crawled in really small drains with the hopes of finding something greater. I myself have gone about 50 yards before deciding that I wasn't going to continue... getting out was not fun.

depends. I've gone down tubes that I was trench crawling for about 100 feet to lonely gutter boxes. Becomes a lot easier with a drainboard.

i got a drainboard, one of the most helpful things i take with me lol. the bearings always get junked up though. Around where i live there are no large drains, none big enough to stand and walk in anyway.

I've crawled into small drain half filled with ice several times, but the ice always gets thinner and thinner, it typically cracks after about 25-50 meters and then I'm screwed because there's too much water and I can't really crawl anymore. I have to get a drain board for next summer. Drain boards don't do well in icy drains...

lol, yea, I use a 1 dollar goodwill board with some 10 dollar spitfire wheels on them so that I don't run into problems like that. Well worth the investment, as less energy is wasted to friction, meaning you can push yourself farther/not hurt as much next morning.

Personally me and my best friend live in MN and it is pretty warm in the summer, but after 70 yards we hit a underground power cable running through the drain and decided to turn back.

Farthest I've gone is about a block or so, at which point the pipe got small enough that I could just barely squeeze into it and could only move forwards by wriggling; needless to say, I left soon after.
However, if I had a reasonable expectation of cool stuff at the other end, I'd go much further.

i will go as far as needed if theres something interesting at the end i will go for A LONG! time

Exactly 223 feet and back 'duck walking' though 42" pipe.

2 of us crawling through 3' x 1.5' Sandstone box, came into a few larger RCP chambers but just got small again. Went about 120m before we turned back.

Didnt have any water and started to feel a little bit claustrophobic.

As long as my shoulders aren't scraping against the pipe, I would probably crawl about 500 feet (especially if I think it opens up into a larger pipe).

Until I'm in physical pain from being crunched over or squished, factoring in that I still have to go all the way back.
I crawled a few hundred feet on ice once and came out at a frozen over waterfall. Totally worth it!

Lately I have been trying to go as far in as possible, all comfort forgotten...I usually turn back if I see a corner far up ahead, reach it, turn the corner, and see a straight pipe as far as the torch light will go...

nothing's more disheartening than that...

Ive been lucky enough to find alot of walkable drains in my area tho the few have been backbreakers ive only crawled about 50ft before giving up and crawling back,to many brown widows in my area Im looking to buy a drain board tho to make the trip a hole lota fun plus the ground u can cover instead of crawling would be awsome

One set of drains i have been going though, i can walk up right for about 1/4 -1/2 mile ( not sure, hard to judge distance with no markers). But i am currently designing apparatus that will allow me to go into the tunnels as small 2.5 feet tall by 3 feet wide. it hasn't been built yet as i haven't finished getting its parts. I will post pics when finished and in use.

Yea, do post pics, it's always nice to see a home made drain board. Back in the day, my drain board was made out of two lunch trays from my college's cafeteria bolted together with castor wheels.

I was trying to reach an interceptor sewer (which in hindsight was a stupid idea) through a back breaker. Managed to go a couple of city blocks before turning around. Only good thing about it was its brick construction.

Get skateboard, add ”razor” scooter wheels, and lift as the rear axle crosses each seam. I'm considering an upgrade to lawnmower wheels, but they're heavy.
