Does anyone know the current condition of the Nike missile sites around Cincinnati? I haven't been out to them in years and want to go again, but would like to know if any of them are still intact.

Wilmington = Farm
Oxford = Shooting Range and storage for Miami University PD
Clermont = Someone owns, maintains, and keeps people off of the property, the rest of it is a scrap yard with the base demolished. Found that one out first hand this past winter.

So are the missile storage facilities still around on any of them? How about the one in Indiana?

I've only personally been to the Oxford and the Clermont Co. base. In Oxford the barracks and main base are used for storage and feature radio towers and equipment used by the University. One of my best friends and coworkers is a former campus police officer up there. According to him the missile storage area is where they have their shooting range. The former underground magazines were flooded when the ordinance was removed.

Seicer and I went searching for the one in Clermont this past December. The barracks and base are in excellent condition (I have some photos around here somewhere), but the place is sealed up tight. One weird thing we noted was when we arrived at the base earlier in the morning there was a phonebook and newspapers dropped off behind the padlocked gate. We came back later with the intent of getting around the fence, but the phone book and newspapers were gone...so we assumed someone was watching the property/regularly visits. The missile storage facility here is no more, it's now a scrap yard for some business.

Never made it to Wilmington, but the guy from www.illicitohio.com did. There's some stuff to see there. Here's his site: http://illicitohio...ilmingtonnike.html

As for Indiana. I've never really taken the time to locate it or travel to it.

I just spoke with a friend that I know that works at a local paper. She says that if I can find out the owners of the sites and their phone numbers; she would be willing to flash her credentials and see if we could get site tours of Oxford and Clermont. I can add Mr. Bombay to the guest list if you are interested.

Would your friend from Oxford know which department or person to call at the PD to inquire about something like that?

Oh, definitely, I would be interested, thanks for asking! My personal email is [email protected] if you need to reach me other than here.

As for Oxford, I don't know who to contact personally, but I would try with someone in the Administration board: http://www.units.m...ministration.shtml

Maybe the secretary to the police chief? I'll ask my friend, but it may be hard to get a hold of him.
