well some of the things he said were just patently untrue but, for most of it he was right on the money.

Iacocca was a fighter of the nth order... i read his biography a few years ago and his fighting with congress for a loan to save Chrysler was an epic battle and to be honest, maybe some of you aren't old enough to remember, Chrysler cars of this vintage when new weren't half bad. Look how many old Shadows and Sundances are running around? You still the see the odd K-car still rolling... I still admire Lee Iacocca a whole bunch and agree that we need something like him to get back to the way America was.

You all know my hatred for Japanese and Korean cars... it's not so much the cars that i hate is the fact that they stacked the deck and got an unfair advantage for far too long. Couple that with people buying into their bullshit ad campaigns and is it no wonder we are where we're at?

Most people only associate Iacocca with things like Chrysler & the Dodge Caravan creation..... check his history and relation to Ford & the Mustang!

i watched him a few months ago on the news, he never asked for money from the government, just loan guarantees, and chrysler paid every cent back. He was instrumental in the aquisition of american motors civilian line and that gave chrysler Jeep,of course it gave them renault too but we wont go into that!

Iacocca made sure that the best and brightest from AMC were put in good positions at Auburn Hills even. He made the head of R&D from AMC as the head of R&D at Mopar.

Unfortunately, I think Chrysler started to loose it when they started hiring all the Ford R&D rejects in the 90s. I've met a few retired Mopar engineers who said they were the ones noticed by DalmlerBenz management because they always had a band aid solution to everything and it so happened to be cost effective upfront. But of course, this always lead to defects or recalls down the road.

Ford engineering was big on band aid fixes to everything that came up in product development because it was the cheapest solution. Ford however did not do this with anyone working on the CVPI as well if you do, you end up with a whole lot of angry police officers My uncle even commented on that when he worked for Visteon in R&D.

Iacocca released a book last year, titled "Where Have All The Leaders Gone?". I love this excerpt from his book.

"We’ve got a gang of clueless bozos steering our ship of state right over a cliff, we’ve got corporate gangsters stealing us blind, and we can’t even clean up after a hurricane much less build a hybrid car. But instead of getting mad, everyone sits around and nods their heads when the politicians say, “Stay the course.” Stay the course? You’ve got to be kidding. This is America, not the damned Titanic."

"Deep in the human psyche there lies the need to believe in something fantastic, something powerful, something unknown."

"Touch what you cannot solve, and return to me. I'll give you hints, and I'll give you three..." Zork Nemesis "I eat asbestos and piss PCBs."
