Well, seeing as I've acquired a Fenix LD20 for free and all, I'm getting myself a real nerd accoutrement: the Fenix headband.

I don't desperately miss having a powerful headlamp (I have my short-range ZebraLight), but there are times when being able to use a light hands-free would be very convenient. Also, I'll see if I can attach the ZebraLight as well. How much use I'll get from the thing remains to be seen, but it's worth a look, I think.

Now, if www.torchworld.com.au would stop hanging while I try to view my shopping cart, I'd be set.

Dude, you started a private board on Flashlights, Torches, and Portable Lighting. I think your nerddom was assured.

I think you were the impetus for the board's creation!

Torchworld was back up this morning - headband has been ordered. I also ordered a red filter to fit the LD20, figuring that if I don't use it for its designed purpose, I'll at least be able to use the sleeve to mount other things. (It was cheap-ish, and I had to pay postage anyway...)

Damn, I was going to order another dildo (er, for a friend...), but forgot. Too late now, too, I've already had the shipping confirmation. Damn their efficiency!

Wow, the headband arrived less than twenty-four hours after I ordered it.

I should take a photo. You have never seen a dorkier looking headlamp setup. In other words, it looks just like you'd expect.

That said, it seems to work very nicely

Actually that's a pretty neat setup. How easy is it to remove the flashlight from the holder?

It's very easy - Just unscrew the knob at the top there that holds the two halves of the clamp together, and take out the light.

I guess it could hold similar non fenix lights too?

Yes indeed - I have a generic CR123 light on side side at the moment. It's not quite wide enough to take an 18650 light, though, even the particularly slim one I tried.

It should in theory fit any size light. All you'd need to do is attach the 'too big' light to some kind of tube or slug, that *WILL* fit in the Fenix's clamp, and you'd just have it balanced a bit more toward one side.

Interesting theory. So, I could try to attach two of Micro's spotlights, and look like Mickey Mouse?

Sick of holding a torch in my mouth, I pulled out the headband. I have to say, it really is great.

Headband action shot (with the torch off):
