This pisses me off. I dont think the cop was wrong, up until the point where the man says his mother is dying. Where is the professional courtesy and sympathy?

Yah I've read about this one...but I have a feeling that we might be missing all of the story.

One main thing is it's not like the cop held them and refused to get the mother help. He did call for an ambulance.

Overall it seems like this cop messed up, but I still think there might be more on the cops side of the story as well.

wow , that's completely out of line. If you pull up to a hospital and have something that important going on and explained it to the cop, he should have let him go up and say his goodbyes and wait to write him the ticket.

step back from this one incident and look at the big picture here in the United States. How many cases of cop misconduct have you seen, read of or heard about? Unjustified deaths, overapplications of authority or just plain old abuse. There is a definite problem here in this country.

Police officers are trained to view everyone as the enemy, and unfortunately, they are bigots with badges, just due to the crime statistics out there. Statistically, it's going to be a black man or a brown man that is going to ruin your day. Is that right? Most certainly not, but these fuckers run on numbers for everything.

This story is not surprising at all. In fact, I am somewhat disturbed that it did not surprise me. After reading further in the article about the officer in question, the kid definitely sounds like a punk with a badge on a powertrip. What happened to a screening process or psychological evaluation from a 3rd party? Has our law enforcement system broken down so much that it's the criminals policing the collective asylum? I mean, here we are in 2009 and you CANNOT (i can't stress this enough) trust a cop. Period.

sad state of affairs, folks... very sad.

Here in my little corner of New York state, i have made it my hobby to make the state police and sheriffs more accountable for the completely retarded shit they pull. I've sent the attorney general, state police commander and governor so many emails, i feel like a stalker. I used to get my letters published in the paper so often, it was like having my own abbreviated column!

Try the Office of the Inspector General, as they are appointed to handle cases of fraud, abuse and corruption of government employees. There are OIGs at the state, federal, and local levels.

They're not as "mainstream", as in they are not nearly as well known as most agencies. Aside from internal affairs (which typically tends to do jack shit), the OIG seems to be the only government agency established specifically to address criminal/civil complaints against government officials.

Im pretty sure the guy in oakland who shot 4 cops felt the same way about todays law enforcement.

Out here their lazy, They would rather take someone in over a traffic ticket warrant than actually catch a criminal. Police brutality / Abuse of power, I think about 18-24 people were shot by our local cops last year. Every single case found the officers not at fault when the whole entire public knew at least 2 of the cases were BS.
