| | | Posted by Samurai you think finding body parts for a BMW is bad, here's a little piece of unlogic for you. Chevy Monte Carlo. Built millions of them, right? try finding one in a salvage yard? I have called all over the fucking place and could not find a rear bumper cover. Or a center console armrest/lid. Or a door panel. these cars are still on the fucking road, or the ones they do have are so fucked up and mangled that they are only good for crush weight. Yeah, a Chevy Monte Carlo... I went through this with the Lumina too. i can't win. I've had Jonsered looking for a rear bumper for my Dads' 78 Thunderbird for 2 years now! Sometimes having esoteric tastes in cars is a fucking nightmare. and yes, I do like that style of BMW... it just needs to be lowered to the ground with BLACK tinted windows. And does anyone make a violent-sounding exhaust for it? A car like that, be as ostentatious as possible.
| I've noticed that with a lot of commonplace cars. I think that the junkyards figure "eh, there's a million of these floating around" and crushes the car even when there are good parts left. Took us forever and a day to get a door, fender, and front bumper cover for a 94 Roadmaster sedan, which uses a unique nose separate from the wagons. After searching 10 places and driving hundreds of miles, even using the Intardnet, we found all the parts for under 200 bucks removed at a sketchy-ass yard not 5 miles from my house! Anyway, right after they took the parts off, they crushed the friggin car, which still had a lot of good parts! Wtf! They were smushing complete Crown Vics and Econoline vans like they were going out of style too. Kind of a sin. In a related story, last year when scrap was high, we junked an 85 Bronco and an 82 Lincoln Mark 6. The Lincoln had a TON of great parts, and still ran and drove, had just been sitting a long time. It even had an ultra rare special edition interior that was brown and cream with piping on the seats, and mirrored glass opera windows from the factory. I'm sure the retards crushed the car instead of parting it out. Last thing I saw that pisses me off was a few weeks ago, in Salem MA there was an old 70 Chrysler Imperial sitting next to a house that looked abandoned. An old woman lived there. Well finally the city condemned the house. SOMEONE came with an excavator, and instead of gingerly removing the car, SMASHED IT into the shape of a horseshoe, then dragged it out to the street and smashed it onto a flatbed. Idiots! It was solid!
