anyone wanna make 50 bucks? if youll head to your local scrap yard and see if they have an 88/89 bmw 635csi with a nice front valence/air damn., ill re-inburse you the cost from the junkyard+50 bucks.

i know it seems desperate, but im trying my hardest not to spend 800 to get one new from bmw.

its the piece below the bumper that the foglights sit in just to clear up any confusion.

Crap, there's a place in Toronto that specializes in used Bimmer parts, I used to get stuff from them all the time. I'll see if I still have their number somewhere.

I just called up Hillsboro Auto Wrecking and came up with nothing. They said there's a BMW place in Washington state that should have it.

you think finding body parts for a BMW is bad, here's a little piece of unlogic for you.
Chevy Monte Carlo. Built millions of them, right?
try finding one in a salvage yard? I have called all over the fucking place and could not find a rear bumper cover. Or a center console armrest/lid. Or a door panel.
these cars are still on the fucking road, or the ones they do have are so fucked up and mangled that they are only good for crush weight.

Yeah, a Chevy Monte Carlo... I went through this with the Lumina too.
i can't win.

I've had Jonsered looking for a rear bumper for my Dads' 78 Thunderbird for 2 years now! Sometimes having esoteric tastes in cars is a fucking nightmare.

and yes, I do like that style of BMW... it just needs to be lowered to the ground with BLACK tinted windows. And does anyone make a violent-sounding exhaust for it? A car like that, be as ostentatious as possible.

well, obviously.

but im attempting to avoid that. i'd much rather save one from a junkyard than fork over close to a grand to the stealership. i'll find one eventually. its just a pain in the ass.

I've noticed that with a lot of commonplace cars. I think that the junkyards figure "eh, there's a million of these floating around" and crushes the car even when there are good parts left.

Took us forever and a day to get a door, fender, and front bumper cover for a 94 Roadmaster sedan, which uses a unique nose separate from the wagons. After searching 10 places and driving hundreds of miles, even using the Intardnet, we found all the parts for under 200 bucks removed at a sketchy-ass yard not 5 miles from my house! Anyway, right after they took the parts off, they crushed the friggin car, which still had a lot of good parts! Wtf! They were smushing complete Crown Vics and Econoline vans like they were going out of style too. Kind of a sin.

In a related story, last year when scrap was high, we junked an 85 Bronco and an 82 Lincoln Mark 6. The Lincoln had a TON of great parts, and still ran and drove, had just been sitting a long time. It even had an ultra rare special edition interior that was brown and cream with piping on the seats, and mirrored glass opera windows from the factory. I'm sure the retards crushed the car instead of parting it out.

Last thing I saw that pisses me off was a few weeks ago, in Salem MA there was an old 70 Chrysler Imperial sitting next to a house that looked abandoned. An old woman lived there. Well finally the city condemned the house. SOMEONE came with an excavator, and instead of gingerly removing the car, SMASHED IT into the shape of a horseshoe, then dragged it out to the street and smashed it onto a flatbed. Idiots! It was solid!

now that i am thinking of it, there was a HUGE Euro-centric salvage yard in Vermont. I just can't remember where the hell it was! It was all Beemers, Benzes, anything European, it was here. Try googling Vermont for salvage yards... it would be a good road trip. (lol)

And Matt, you are 100% right.. i have seen so many decent and pretty rare 'commonplace' cars crushed, it breaks my heart.

As for the Bimmer bumper, have you posted any wanted ads on craigslist? Also try googling the part you're looking for, and "craigslist" in the search bar, it will search ALL the craigslists across the country. Can also use those special sites that search multiple cities. Lastly, try car-part.com. That site's pretty good.

What about just putting a sticky thread up with a topic like "Parts needed"? I was in a junkyard last week and saw a late '70's t-bird and a couple of Monte's.

the trick, though, is finding a rear bumper for a 78-79 T-bird with NO rust or pitting... good luck!
