ARGH!!! I have used this service for about 3 years and never had any problems but this year? Oh no! First of all, I entered all my information last night and then realized I did not have my bank's routing number for the direct deposit. No big deal. I will just save it and continue in the morning. Well, guess what? None of my info saved. I guess that could be an error on my part but when they little thingy is spinning saying "Saving Your Data", you kind of think they are saving it. After getting my routing number and signing back in, it is pretty obvious that all the data needs to be re-entered. Again, no big deal. I finally get to the "Click and File" button and a payment screen comes up. Now they want 29.95 for the "Free" option and evidently, according to the FAQ, I upgraded somewhere along the way. So now it seems I must create a new account and watch carefully what is selected so as to not "upgrade" myself again. Damn, TurboTax! I am only getting 75 bucks back anyway! Can I has it, plz?

That sucks, try Taxact. I've been using them for three years with no problems. They do charge for the e-file but it's only $16.95

Actually, the fix was rather easy. I did have to create a new account, but I almost had the information memorized after entering it three freaking times. I was very carefull before continuing on each page and in the end, it cost me nothing. Just a pain in the ass to do it.

I would still recommend this service to anyone but just the warning of not rushing through it to insure you get the free option.

And where is my stimulus check, Obama!!?? I need it now.

That's what I used for both Samurai's and mine. Two weeks later, checks in each of our hands. I did ours as soon as we both had our W2 forms back in February. No muss no fuss. I've been using them for the last four years. The 16.95 is only for your state return, they do a free federal return as well. But for 17 bucks, may as well file em both. It's a hell of a lot cheaper than using my old accountant. He'd charge 20 bucks and 5 lbs of cleaned smelt. (Don't ask)

for those of you not from the Northeast or New York, smelt is a type of fish that the hardy fisherman are after in their little ice shanties on the frozen Lake Champlain.

I absolutely refuse to pay to have my taxes done. They always go in completely wrong and the are recalculated by the CRA. I am constantly outraged that the tax filing industry exists. The government should not be allowed to make taxes so complicated. Furthermore, every year I am furious when I pay for my stamp to mail my taxes. The amount of profit they make on their citizens during tax season is offensive. There should be free drop boxes. Tax season makes me mad. That is likely why I only do my taxes every few years even though I always have money coming to me. I just can't be bothered with the whole rigmarole.

If you make less than $50K a year, you can file your taxes free on the IRS.GOV website. I've done it for a few years now and its worked perfectly for me.

BTW, breaded smelts fried in butter - YEAH BABY!

Turbotax was free for state and federal last year (for me) but this year they wanted $20 for a state return. WTF? Thanks, Turbotax.
