| | | rock is too broad a category, so to narrow it down some... Metal - Tool <> Classic Rock - i have to go with Led Zeppelin on this, but theres so many others that could take it...<> straight up ballz to the wall Rock N Roll - Guns N Roses (im stoked to hear the new Velvet Revolver cd) <> punk - Bad Religion, not even close <> rap - Jurassic 5, again, not even close <> emo - should all die, but Something Corporate has some good stuff <> grunge - Pearl Jam <> blues - i love Stevie Ray Vaughan but i hate to say he's the best ive heard. definately my favorite tho. <> Favorite Band of All Time ... Pearl Jam. <> gotta mention some bands here.... Orgy, 311 nobody can sound like these guys, they have their own style that i havent heard anybody be able to copy halfway decently

| | | Korn, Slipknot, Lincoln Park, Good Charolotte, Blink 182, Sum 41 and all those style of bands are NOT, I repeat NOT, punk bands. Punk bands are bands not signed to a major label, and perform for the love of the music, not to meet stipulations of a record contract. That's not to say you can't make money at it, it just depends how you do it. DIY or die. The above bands are classified under the 'pop punk', 'pussy punk' or 'alternative'. ;) As for my favourites: punk: Social Distortion, Misfits (pre 1984), Dead Kennedys (pre reunion without Jello Biafra), NOFX, The Exploited, CRASS, early Bad Religion, early Green Day, various local acts, Rancid, Ramones, New York Dolls, Dead Boys, Suicide, Iggy and The Stooges, etc Country: Hank Williams, Slim Whitman, the first half of Johnny Cash's career, Hank Snow, some Dolly Parton hardcore: Snapcase, Terror, Hatebreed other: Nirvana, The Cramps, Stray Cats, Alice in Chains, The Rolling Stones, Elvis Presley, Frank Sinatra, The Velvet Underground, Agoraphobic Nosebleed, Brian Setzer, Carly Simon, Anal Cunt, Macabre, NIN, Marilyn Manson (Antichrist and prior), RHCP....

Ah, the perils of of free tunes. My heart's bleedin' for ya dude. Just bleedin' I thought I was a little ahead of my peers by giving up the dino-rock music I grew up on, but this thread's opened my eyes big time. Never mind bands I've never heard of, there are apparently entire musical genres I've never heard of! Hopefully hanging around this forum will fix that up a bit. Favourites... I've been getting pretty heavy into the alt-country ever since I got high speed and WinMx running. In no particular order: Tom Waits, Fred Eaglesmith, Wilco, Richard Thompson, Blackie & The Rodeo Kings, Replacements, Steve Earle, Meat Puppets, David Lindley, Warren Zevon, Ry Cooder, Gillian Welch & David Rawlings, Jim White, Los Lobos, Whiskeytown, Colin James, Joe Jackson, Emmylou Harris, Bottle Rockets. If you're into any of these bands, please feel free to PM with some of your suggestions to look into. I'm having the time of my life filling up my iPod with new and great tunes. Hell, I'm even thinking of having it surgically implanted into my head!
