Aging Well?

I ran into a couple people I graduated high school with this morning. I had to run to the local credit union and stop to the grocery store to pick up something for my lunch, being it's pay day and all for me.

I couldn't believe it. I ran into two girls who actually looked halfway decent back then, well, better than I did. Surprised the hell out of me that I actually have aged better than a lot of other people my age. Other than being fat, not having showered or done my hair for the day yet and looking like a raccoon from not sleeping well lately, I look good.

Seriously. Both of these girls for 35 look like wrinkled paper bags. One of them I actually had to look twice at to make sure it was her.

I shared a room with both of them on the senior class trip and oh my god, they both look like shit.

Samurai looks a lot better than most men his age. Even if he doesn't think so, I certainly do.

So, how well or badly have the rest of us all aged?

There was a girl who I knew briefly in college. She was weird and beautiful and quirky and artistic and all the stuff that I like. It was my last quarter, and she started dating a friend of mine about the time we met, so meh, whatevs,.. but I just remember her being so fantastically amazing.

I ran into her a couple of years ago during intermission at some performance. We spoke briefly, and as we were going back into the theatre, I texted my old friend who had dated her all those years ago....

"Just ran into Emme. She has gotten old, while I have remained young and beautiful."

Shutterbug says I've aged well. Some grey and the beard is starting to see the "salt and pepper" look.

So why do I feel like death warmed over lately?

I'm 42 and look "Ok." My students said I looked 32 or 38 at most. My fat tummy is due to me loving food that's bad for me but I can still run 6 miles pretty easily. My hair is going grey but I wouldn't have it otherwise, and I am also getting grey in the beard. I'm fortunate in that I work w/young people and have access to excercise equipment and facilities. Plus aside from the occasional two-Jr.-bacon-cheeseburger lunches I generally eat pretty reasonably. I imagine most of my friends from the class of '85 look basically the same, though I haven't seen any in a couple of years.

I've always looked younger than I am. That was not an asset in high school, but, one person did once say "you'll be happy when you're forty, but look thirty."

Shame my hairline started receding around age twenty

I have to admit that I love to see people that I graduated with who were "the ones" back then and look like hell now. Normally I feel I have handled the aging process pretty well.

I was talking to a guy at work about looking and feeling old. He said not to worry, the younger guys were talking in the break room about how they "would go for it" and they are in their 20's. Maybe he is full of shit but it made my day just the same.

It's true! All the guys my age in my circle of friends are balding or grey. It's amusing, though, I look back at photos of myself in my early twenties, and think I look gawky and half-formed.

Well, I used to look younger than my age, but at about 60 I hit a wall. Bound to happen. Biologically I'm still about 45-50. not overweight (small beer belly). Can still run a marathon. I've been a trainer for abt. 10 yrs and that keeps me fit. (Folks don't like overweight trainers). If not for that I'd probably have porked up when I retired from full time work. UE is also a major plus because of it's physical demands.
Looking at the "Rad Portraits" thread shows a pretty fit bunch, I'd say.

LOL @ the phrase "chicks that thought they were hot shit..." So funny. Bitter much?

Oh, and my neighbor and I ran for an hour last night, 7.55 miles. I hadn't gone that long in about a year, can't say it felt good, but it did when I was done and had a Honey Moon in my hand in the front yard with the kids and cats playing in the yard. (run-on sentence? If so, suck it)

I get a sick sense of satisfaction about aging better than most of my friends. AND my sister. She always looked younger than me, even though she is older. She was tanner (loved the sun) when we were teenagers, and I slept all day a lot, mostly missing the sun (not much has changed when I don't have to get up). They all made fun of me, but who is laughing now (with no leather face crows feet??) ME!!! MMMwhahahaa!!

I recently ran into one of my first serious boyfriends as well..holy shit. All I can say is WTF. Thank god I dodged that bullet.

You and me will all go down in history, with a sad Statue of Liberty, and a generation that didn't agree.

32 and still getting carded, full head of hair, back as strong as an ox and people think my daughter is my lil sister!
haha!

They say "you can't judge a book by its cover!" I say "YES you can, if the cover has a girl on it with a cock in her mouth, its PORN!" if she's 18 and the cock is black, its GREAT porn!

lol...just wait till they stop carding you. It's happened to me in the past year that they've stopped for the most part. Only one place and that's just cuz they need to put your DOB into the computer to allow it to process your purchase.

I thought the same when I was 32, but in the past three years, my knees and ankles have deteriorated further than I thought they would and I walk like I'm gimpy 90 year old peg legged sailor.
