The personal responsibility train left the station years ago, and you gave it the finger as you watched it leave.

That is pretty.

I sit out back at work some nights watching the semis come in and out of the trailer yard on my breaks. Where I work is right next to the warehouse where the products are loaded into trailers.

That would be a pretty sight pulling into our yard along with the old Kenworths, Peterbilts and Freightliners.

There's one truck fleet that hauls for us that uses mostly 2 to 5 year old Freightliners and a few newer Internationals as their fleet. They're all pretty standard, mostly white paint jobs with JB. Hunt logos. But...there's one indy International driver that comes in with a sweet paint job that I look forward to seeing, because it usually means we've got a big order of paper going out of the country. He drives cargo containers for Maersk most of the time. He's got the flames, chrome and all and travels with a little basset hound...just like Cledus out of Smokey and the Bandit. It's so cliche...but I look forward to seeing him when he comes in with the dog hanging out the passenger side window.

I like the grill, retro, edgy but not ugly. Kind of a sinister grin, Maximum Overdrive vibe going on, looks like a 40's type of design. Nice story Shael, must be kind of cool to be part of something so big.

Sometimes it is, other times it's a pain in the butt.

I spend a fair share of time outside watching the switcher move trailers and the drivers come in and out, usually late evening or night shift. The line I normally work on is right near the loading dock. Occasionally we get new drivers that come into the area where I work looking for the office. That's how I saw the dog the first time. I walked both of them to the office in the warehouse.

The company doesn't like it much, but sometimes the drivers will put their pets on a leash and bring them inside with them. Especially if they have a long wait for their load. The clerks in the office are usually good for a dog or cat treat and a bowl of fresh water from the water cooler while the drivers wait for the paperwork and the trailer to be loaded.

I saw one of those new International Lonestars at the local International Dealer. I did a double-take when I first saw it! All I could think was that it looked like a freaking locomotive! Anyhow, I thought it was pretty hip!

Click. Just got it. The old: International Loadstar...

Someone in marketing deserves a free trip to Texas, and a years supply of Lone Star beer.

Next year they should have the International Blownstar. (A hopped up version, 30% more power and triple Super Charged).

So there I was rolling towards Louisville in the Gran Marquis on a dark and lonely stretch of I-71 when as I crested a small ridge I noticed a police car with it's lights going. A dead heading flatbed in the slow lane was blocking what was going on further down the road, but the flatbed was also standing on it's brakes.

As I over took the flatbed I saw I a fire truck with it's crew prepping their hoses to put out the boiling inferno the had been a Ford Aerostar (I mean this thing was really going, like they had been hauling cardboard boxes of kerosene)

That when I saw it, Looking in the review mirror, every inch of chrome reflecting the dancing orange flames of the burning van. The flat bed was being pulled by the first Lonestar I'd ever seen in person. The lighting made the grill and front bumper look as if they were made of fire.

All in all, not a bad way to make a lasting first impression.
