| | | It's not like embalming a corpse, Sam. It's more like watching a pathologist dissect a corpse trying to find out what he or she died from. It's interesting to me from a financial standpoint mostly because here we see one of the largest companies in the world struggling and doing something that we may never see again. Usually by the time a company the size of GM hits the skids, they've sold off everything and anything of value just to make payroll and keep the lights and heat on. GM's stock was selling at 75 cents a share on Friday, UAW made huge concessions, well...huge from where I sit. GM is still pretty much intact for now. It's creditors, the courts and the US government haven't chopped it into little pieces yet. Many of it's bondholders were willing to forgive debt for pieces of the company. GM's restructuring plan would have kept the company virtually intact, minus a few brand names and sold all of it's assets of value to another company to try to totally pay off it's huge debt. They may still try to do the sale with Chapter 11 restructuring, but now, it may be a completely different ball game once they get into court. We haven't heard from GM's creditors yet in regards to their debt reorganization and loan repayment terms change requests, which should be going out from GM's legal staff shortly, if they haven't already. I think those will make things interesting. Especially if the creditors don't accept GM's requests for reorganization and modification of the debt repayment agreements. If this doesn't work, then bye bye...all bets are off and they will probably go into Chapter 7, which is where all non exempt assets are liquidated or sold to try to get rid of their debt. Chrysler will emerge from Chapter 11 bankruptcy in the next 30 to 60 days pretty much unscathed and with a deal with Fiat, from what I have read. GM will not be so lucky. At least that's my prediction from the information I've been getting. They will be damn lucky if all they lose are a few of their brand names. It's sad, but it feels like they're hanging GM for all of the american car makers mistakes. Not just being punshed for their own, but for Chrysler's and Ford's too, who's are both getting out of this really really easy. Shael
