It looks like maybe you Ontario folks might be getting another hockey franchise. Some Ballisie guy is trying to get control of the Phoenix Coyotes who filed bankruptcy. It's a dogfight between, the owner, the NHL, this guy and putting the franchise in Las Vegas, Winnipeg or Hamilton Ontario.
i love a good hockey soap opera.

The Coyotes need to leave Phoenix, they suck and nobody here likes hockey.

i always found it hard to believe that people that live where there has never been snow or ice would like hockey... Phoenix had a hard enough time accepting football for all those years.

Yea, it is a weird sports town. Everybody is from somewhere else, hardly any natives. I am actually a Cardinal fan now though, I watched every single game last year.

When it comes to hockey, it's red wings all the way. I just can't stand to root for the Lions anymore.

the NHL is adamant about keeping the Coyotes in Arizona! I wonder why?

Gretzky may be the Great One, but to pay his salary to coach a mediocre at best team is not financially a good idea for the Coyotes. I'm still trying to figure why the NHL has it's panties in a bunch about the Coyotes moving to Hamilton? It's a more solid hockey-centric market, but I can see where there might be TOO many teams in that area... You've got the Leafs, the Red Wings, Senators, Sabres and the Blackhawks. Can that area support ANOTHER NHL franchise?

Bring the team back to Winnipeg already damnit! I honestly don't see hockey working out in Hamilton and there's really no where else for a team to go right now. Besides Hamilton isn't really a pro sports city. They can barely keep the Ti-Cats going for f**ks sake! And this second team in Toronto is the stupidest thing i've ever heard. The Leafs will never let it happen.

We all miss the old Jets don't we?

I really hope the team comes to Hamilton. I'm sure the team could thrive better here than down in Phoenix.

The NHL should of known hockey in Phoenix was a bad idea. It's not a hockey town now and never will be. The biggest problem we see with lower market NHL teams such as Phoenix, Islanders, Blue Jackets etc, is the inability to fill up the seats every game. If you look at the revenue stats for each season of hockey it's amazing how many NHL teams are either losing money or barely breaking even. In this case of the Phoenix Coyotes, the Coyotes have never made money since Mr. Moyes became an investor in 2001, and because of this the team has suffered huge financial losses since. It's no wonder the man wants to dump the team that he pretty much screwed over.

It's pretty much a done deal from what the local sports media is reporting. Jim Balsillie has said he will keep the Coyotes in Phoenix for the 09/10 season and then move them to Hamilton.

What's always seemed weird to me is Phoenix has one of largest Hispanic populations in the United States, yet someone decides its a good idea to bring a hockey team here while we have no professional soccer team. I think a soccer team would be a hit here.

It's cause Jimmy keeps throwing more and more money on the table. Extra 30 million here and there will for sure change a lot of minds. It must be nice to be a billionaire.

I do believe an MLS franchise would do well in Phoenix, alot more then an NHL franchise obviously did. I'm sure Phoenix will be on the list of possible spots for future MLS teams.

How about Wayne Gretzky resigning as head coach yesterday. That's probably the best thing to every happen to them. He is a legend, second to none on the ice but his coaching skills have proven to be terrible. The new coach, Dave Tippet from the Dallas Stars is a proven winner. It will be interesting to see what they look like this year with Tippen calling the shots.

The Phoenix Coyotes are among the poorest teams in the NHL, and yet former head coach Wayne Gretzky was making far more than any other coach in the league. Gretzky earned between $6 million and $8 million per year on a five-year contract, or more than seven times the average annual salary for an NHL head coach. His contract was so generous that even though Gretzky was said by one source to have agreed to defer up to half his salary this season, he would still be the best paid coach in the league. It's obvious where the team was wasting a good chunk of money.

I'm huge Gretzky fan, but i think he jumped into coaching a little too soon.

Dave Tippet is a very respectable coach and hopefully he can do good things with the Phoenix Coyotes.

Well looks like it ain't happening....

Canadian billionaire Jim Balsillie confirmed Wednesday he won't appeal Judge Redfield T. Baum's decision to reject both bids for the bankrupt Phoenix Coyotes.

http://sports.symp...yotes&pagenumber=1

This part blows my mind...

...floundering franchise that lost $75 million in 2004, $50 million in 2005, $75 million in 2006, $117 million in 2007 and $72 million in 2008. For a total of $389 million dollars.

Yea, the bankruptcy judge ruled that if Balsillie moves the team against the wishes of the NHL, it would not be in the best interest of both parties so his bid got rejected. With that said, the judge is allowing the NHL to modify their bid and find an owner who will keep the team in Glendale.

This move is ridiculous. Bill Daly needs to put his pride away and realize hockey in Phoenix is just not a good idea.

Oh absolutely!

Now because i'm curious of your answer let me ask you a question. Let's say your the current owner of the Phoenix Coyotes and wish to move the team to a city of your chosing (canadian or american). If you had to move the team to a city no questions asked, which city would you re-locate to? Do you believe that as of right now there is a canadian or american city with enough of a hockey fan base to support an NHL franchise?
