i was in a pissy mood today and decided to send hatemail to everyone.
this one was sent to Chevrolet customer service.

To Chevrolet,

I am writing this letter to express my dismay at the direction your product line is taking. I have been a loyal Chevrolet owner since as far back at 1988, before I started legally driving! In the past, I have owned nine Cavaliers, two Cobalts, three Lumina's, one Monte Carlo, two Celebrities and a Citation X11 hatchback. My family has owned Chevrolets since as far back as 1969, a Camaro Z28 being most notable. It is with this in mind that I am expressing my extreme dismay at the decision to kill off the Chevrolet Cobalt SS/TC in 2009 and the Cobalt line entirely in 2010. I have seen the Chevrolet Cruze and it is exactly what myself and my family are NOT looking for. The Cobalt was an exciting, high energy car that looked far more expensive than it was. It more power and better handling than most anything in it's price class and it was very well built. The Cruze looks to have the appeal of an appliance, ala Toyota Corolla and Honda Civic. It lacks personality, soul, character, everything that the Cobalt has by the bucketful. On top of that, I was reading in one of motoring magazines out there that the Cruze will only come as a sedan with an automatic transmission. Who is the genius that came up with that? I have no need for a sedan and where I live most certainly requires an manual transmission.

I hate to say and I know that it means absolutely bupkis, but I cannot see myself in a Chevrolet Cruze. Also, the Camaro is out of my price range. So where does that leave customers like myself, those who enjoy a coupe, something that is sporty and fun to drive? It leaves out in the cold. We drive the Cobalt because none of us felt that anything from the Japanese, Korean or German companies had that special something. Where does that leave us, those that would prefer to buy American? It leaves us looking to other makes, other brands, because they are building what we want.

I urgently ask you to reconsider discontinuing the Cobalt, or looking at offering a sporty, coupe version of the upcoming Cruze.

Thank you for you attention.

First you say that "we" don't like what the Japanese, Korean, or Germans make anything they lack that "special something". After that you say that, im assuming "we", are left looking at other brands because they build what "we" want. You are telling GM that they suck because they wont make the car that you want, and they also suck because foreign manufacturers are making stuff you like. So, go buy an import. Its all metal and plastic and made on planet earth. Domestic hippies always come across bigoted to me.

None of it really matters, because your email will see the trash bin the second its received. If by chance I'm wrong about the trash bin, i have a feeling you will get pre-prepared copy and paste replies similar to your XM volley. You should write opinions for online publications. I would seriously love to read them.

It would be funny if something like this happens:

"Mr. Harris, we would like to invite you to the GM Renaissance Center in Detroit for a little project...."

It's not like they are doing asbestos they can, obviously they aren't. Good one on the letter Sam. You never know, if they get enough letters they might start to think about it. I agree, it's satisfying to kick their corporate pathetic assess when we have a good reason. Or just cause they deserve it and a good way to vent.

Here's one I sent to DC. I got a short pathetic letter back, saying we don't do that. Which I translated to: We don't give a rat's ass about your concerns. As much as I like Jeeps by design, (AMC credit all the way, including the first second Gen Grand Cherokee, designed by AMC, held a few years before Chrysler built it)

Chrysler has done a few good things, the minivan, and they should give credit where it's due, the Cherokee saved their ass. And they get credit for continuing to build a good vehicle. Anyway, here's my rant:

Note: Apparently I can't spell safety, and do loath Roger, (an emotionless cyborg drone who lives only to serve the corp). And I've owned other Jeeps which have helped me decide to try other brands, much as I like Jeeps and old Chryslers. (Pre 1985 cars)

August 9, 2004

Dear Madam or Sir;

I tried getting through on your 1 800 WEESUCK number, but the wait was long and there was no estimate how long the waiting time would be. I have learned from my local Daimler Chrysler Dealer, (Enzyme Chrysler 666 Satan Street, in Victoria B.C.), of a saftey recall on my 1990 Cherokee Pioneer. VIN: 1J4FJ366666621

I learned about this recall last winter when I had the vehicle in for a problem engaging 4wd. At this time, a service technician informed me of two outstanding saftey recall notices. The first, front brake rotors, were replaced at no cost to me. The second, to install a shift interlock. I declined because I was told by service technician Roger Ahoal that I would have to pay for any and all parts that may break in the installation of this saftey recall upgrade. Luckily I asked, otherwise I could have been in for a rude surprise to get a bill for a saftey recall upgrade. From what he told me, some vehicles in those years had shift interlock,
some did not, (meaning all brands of vehicles not just Daimler Chrysler vehicles)

I accepted that this was a low to moderate risk, and always put my foot on the brake before putting the vehicle in gear. (lol) Having put considerable money into this vehicle already, and having owned it less than two years, I declined the risk of parts, that in Mr. Ahoal’s words were expensive. He refused to give me a worst case scenario, by taking the time to add up the cost of the trim parts that would likely be damaged in this saftey upgrade. He also didn’t inform me that I would have to pay the labor to replace any of these trim pieces, or any other parts that may likely break when performing the upgrade.

I let that all go, but when doing some research on used Grand Cherokee’s, with the thought to try and purchase one, I came across the following from The Center for Auto Saftey.

“Despite a recall of 1989-90 Cherokees for defective throttle position sensors, 1984-95 Cherokees continue to have the highest number of sudden acceleration incidents among sport utility vehicles. Chrysler now blames faulty pedal placement for Jeep sudden acceleration. In order to accommodate the 4x4 shiftbox, the accelerator and brake pedals on these vehicles had to be moved over to the left which places the accelerator almost directly underneath the steering wheel, near where the brake pedal would normally be. Not until ABC's "Prime Time Live" aired a segment on Jeep sudden acceleration in May 1997, did Chrysler propose to offer as a safety measure, a shiftlock on all pre-1996 Cherokees that prevents shifts out of Park unless the brake is depressed”.

This disturbing saftey issue, of which the severity was not properly disclosed by Roger Ahoal, has me now wanting to get the upgrade done. However, to ask a customer to pay for any costs associated with a saftey upgrade on a vehicle is, in my humble opinion absurd. My request is for you to please explain your policy on this, which the service people at Ensign Chrysler did not, or were not able to explain beyond saying it’s a company policy to charge customers for parts that may break, -and are likely to on a vehicle this old-.

My second request is that you consider and grant my request to fix this saftey recall completely, at no cost to me. That obviously would be the fair and customer respectful way of doing business. As you may correctly assume by my driving a 15 year old vehicle, I am not a person of substantial wealth who is able to afford a newer vehicle at this time. I very much though would like to continue purchasing Daimler Chrysler products, and am considering a used Caravan or Grand Cherokee purchase within a year or two. Maybe even leasing a new vehicle.

Your response and attention on my request to have this saftey issue -which is especially critical on my 1990 model year- repaired at no cost to me is much appreciated. I have been told that the Throttle Position Sensor on my vehicle was replaced back in June 1991. Would that part now be replaced again, as a saftey recall, because it is a part that degrades or wears out over time? And on this issue, I have often noticed a slight surging or revving of the engine when I am stopped at a light or whatever. This seems odd and potentially dangerous, and if the revving was higher, could cause a

serious accident. It also shows an indication of this SUA, sudden unintended acceleration problem with my vehicle.

As a side note; in case you monitor customer satisfaction from dealer service departments, I would like to say that in Victoria, of the two Daimler Chrysler dealerships, the Enzyme service department is usually acceptable to good, while the other dealership, Little Willy Dodge Chrysler, are utterly unacceptable, and in fact were insulting when I asked for a replacement of a part on a previous Cherokee. The gear shift knob, which appeared to be made of some kind of biodegradable plastic, disintegrated and fell off.

I’m not without a sense of humor, but the attitude of the parts guy at this dealership was enough for me to terminate any and all business with them for good.

Thank you for your time, and I look forward to many more years of owning Daimler Chrysler vehicles. (lol, as if bitches : )

Sincerely,

A. Lien

Well, if its a 5 star dealer, I would suggest writing a letter to Executive Relations as 5 star dealers are supposed to meet service standards.

A good idea, but I was told that the head office overules the dealers, and makes the final decisions. Still, to seek out the Executive Relations, or ask to have my request reviewed, (send their letter back, pointing out what a fail fest it was) is worth a try.

For what it's worth, that dealer had an excellent Scottish mechanic who was imported from the closed AMC dealer. He knew Jeeps and their changes over the years incredibly well.

As far as ratings go, I'm a bit jaded sometimes: Brief example. BBB The Better Business Bureau here has something called a Torch Award. If one customer writes in saying how great it was dealing with 'Bob's Roofing' then that company can be nominated for this award, which is supposed to look good in the phone book.

Personally I think the companies represented by the BBB pay their salary. The BBB probably keeps the obvious hard core criminal companies out, but anything else can end up in their club. End rant.
