Just bought a 1994 Toyota Camry with the 2200 4-cylinder off a guy I work with for $200. Needs a new crankshaft pulley, timing belt, and outside door handle. ~$150 worth of parts and a few hours worth of work, should be able to sell for $1,500 or more. Win. Any of you got any great success stories of turning a car around for a quick buck?

I got a 1991 240sx for doing some stereo work to someones other car. Their mechanic told them the head gasket was blown and needed a new motor. I took it home and put new plugs in it because the mechanic removed them so the customer wouldnt be able to start it. After that i replaced the alternator and put a brand new battery in it, and sold it for $2,500.

Cha ching!

Buying broken cars and fixing them can almost be a full time business.

People flock to a clean looking used Toyota for a decent price... that should be a decent little money maker.

My best ever was an '84 BMW 318i... bought it for $300, drove it all summer, sold it for $1000, had it given back to me the next summer, and sold it for $400.

Turns out the keyway somehow broke off of the crankshaft and took quite a chunk of the crank and pulleys with it. Not worth fixing to me...Still worth the $200 I paid for it, win some lose some I guess. Probably a long shot, but anyone need any parts off of it? I'm gonna part it out then scrap whatever's left.

Bought a turbo Conquest from a drunk friend for $20 bucks ( it needed a head gasket ) and sold it back to him 3 weeks later for $500 when he relized what he had done. Bit of a drunk that boy.
