What a crazy week. My mother found my step father in bed Monday morning. Not that I wanted the knowledge of what to do in situations like this but the death of my son gave me something positive.

It helped to know what to do to help my mother through that morning and all the planning that had to be done. It may sound nuts but I think my son was urging me on telling me "mommy you did this all before, be strong again, you can do it".

I am sorry to hear of your family's loss and your Mother is fortunate to have you and your strength during this time. That is the way it happens. The same thing happened to me during the loss of my Father. I seemed to find the strength to help my Mom and sister and I attribute that to dealing with my daughter's death. I do not know how close you were with your step-father, but mine was like a real father to me all of my life and I found that the grief that I put off to help my Mom and sister surfaced about a year and half later. So you might want to be prepared for that. But I think that happens to a lot of people who end up being the "rock" during these times.
