My dad's '69 Roadrunner

A while ago, I posted pictures of my 4Runner in the UEMobiles thread and the tail end of my dad's half-finished restoration project of a 1969 Plymouth Roadrunner was sticking out of the garage, prompting some interest on here, and pictures were requested once it was done. Well, he's been at it off and on for probably five years, and it's finally done.

It's got a 440, 4-on-the-floor. I really wish I had digital pictures of when we got it...It was a wreck. All the floors have been replaced as well as the trunk pan, it got one full quarter, one half quarter, the hood was cobbled together out of two old ones, new trunk lid, and a new door, as well as a lot of spot rust and dent repair. I admire my dad a lot for it...There's not a lot of people left who know how and are willing to bring a car back from as far gone as this one was. I hope one day to have the skills to be one of them. If it were mine (or should I say, when it's mine) it would have stock steelies painted body color with dog dish hubcaps on it, but what can I say, I'm a purist. I know there isn't a surplus of Mopar people on these boards, but I figured everyone can appreciate a beautiful old car saved from the brink.

Pops car is awesome!!!!!!! Nice resto work. I had a yellow one in 1977, wish I had never sold her!

I have been working on my projects for longer than I care to admit to. I wish I could collect things that would fit in a curio cab, Instead cars and motorcycles are my passion. It just seems money and time are not in my favor, I guess I should sell one or two of them, This would allow me to focus one completing something.

Just have a hard time selling my babies to jerk offs, it's happened to many times before!!

Very nice RoadRunner... there are so few of these cars left. I can already see a vanity tag for the car:

WAFNHU or WAFNHOO

my father's Thunderbird is not coming along as we had hoped. He had changed the driver's side door back to the year correct hoping that it would take care of a fitment issue with the top rear of the door... my brother and him fooled around with it this weekend until they were blue in the face and have pretty come to the conclusion that the car, in it's 30 years of life, had been tweaked due to some weird impact... When they got the car, it had been whacked hard in the passenger side quarter panel. I think it was hit just hard enough to either tweak the body or the frame... Having a 429 CJ in a car that was never meant to have a big block 385 series doesn't help either.

But on the lighter side, the color came out very nice for being painted in his garage and the car will look sinister when the assembly is finished.

With old Mopars, I think what kills the joy in them is that they are so expensive to get and restore that most people bypass them and go right to a Ford or GM product. Personally, who on this board wouldn't want a 1970 Dodge Challenger R/T in white? Colorado license number OA5599?
hehehe...

Anyways, I'll get some pics of the T-bird tomorrow when I get back from the ER.

epic car

yes.
for once, Nismo proves himself useful.
EPIC car.

can imagine being able to walk into a dealer, plunk down $2500-3000 and walk away with one of these animals?
You can't even get a good used car for that money now.

There's a ham radio operator in Utah I've heard of who did a restoration on a Plymouth Roadrunner and not only restored everything original in the car, but put in matching period radios and antennas.

Some of the auto restoration purists go so far, as to recreate overspray of body color onto the subframe under the front of the doors. Or to photo the undercarriage in order to recreate chalk or grease pencil markings once components have been repainted.

that's why there is an 8-track player in my dad's thunderbird.
the Mopar guys go the farthest when it comes to the grease pencil marks and so on.

Thanks all! Some interesting projects you've got there, cr400. An especially nice looking old Ford truck...

And Samurai, yeah, that's a ridiculous thought to me, seeing as how I was born in '89...And $2,500 is what we paid for the car after sitting in a barn for 15 years =/ At least it had a fresh rebuilt 383 in it for that money.

And I don't mean I'm that much of a purist, I find the purposeful overspray and grease pencil markings and all that a bit much, I just really like the look of the steelies.
