Looks like you stumbled upon this beauty sitting alone in the auto graveyard in pristine condition, You opened the bonnet and seeing that it had a radiator problem, filled it with water, installed a battery, splashed some fuel down the carb and in the tank, and drove her home. Where You photo'd her sitting in your driveway. You're a very lucky man!!!!!!

I just realized, You're selling her, Rims are still yours if you want 'um.

It's actually a funny story about how I got the car... it used to be sitting in a field (in far from pristine condition) and I'd pass it every night on my way home from work. I stopped to ask a few times and the owner told me to get lost. After a couple of years, it vanished. I asked the guy where it went and he said it was crushed.

About 2 months later I get a call from a guy saying "I hear you were interested in my car." I had to ask which car, because I stop and ask about a lot of cars. When he said the orange BMW, I just about peed my pants.

Turns out he had sold it to the guy who had it sitting in his backyard... but backyard guy never actually paid him for it, he just drove it home and that was that. The rightful owner just happened to be out on a tour in his '73 Corvette one afternoon and saw a flash of orange in the corner of his eye, which turned out to be his car.

I drove out to where the car was, paid cash and actually drove it home (about 70 km), smiling (but leaving a trail of rust) the whole way.

A LOT of metal, time, money and paint later... this is how the car looks! I haven't had to do anything mechanically, it had a full rebuild 5,000 miles ago, and just purrs like a kitten.

As for the scrapyard pic, that's a local classic car scrapyard, I was looking for some pieces and thought it'd be a cool shot.

(OH... and thanks for the offer on the rims! I actually have 3 complete sets of the "bottlecap" wheels here already, I used to be huge into the E30s!)

and I THINK I'm selling her... I will probably start crying if I do.

Thing is, I just want to move onto another project. Aircooled VWs are where my heart is, and I can't believe I'm not driving one regularily. Just seems stupid as I have 8 of them.

Well she's a sweet li'l ride, I had a friend in about 1970, He had one, I was only ten at the time. But I knew that car was something special, same color as yours, and everybody that walked, or drove by had to slow down and take a look at her. She was new, foreign, and hotter than a $2.00 pistol.

i wouldn't mind an old Beetle.
one of the first engines I ever rebuilt was an 1800cc out of a 72 Super Beetle.

Hey Bandi...at one time we spoke about my old bosses bug and whether or not it was for sale...turns out it is for sale...i am waiting on a call on how much and what is done to the car. Are you still interested?

I asked about the II, it's not for sale but they've finally put it indoors, and have actually started working on it. Too bad it's not for sale... but at least that beats the thing rotting into the ground.

It's funny, aircooled Beetles just calm my nerves. I've had a shit few weeks at work, just stress causing, knuckle scraping garbage jobs (ie, brake lines, fuel lines, exhaust work) have been coming in, and after a long day of doing crap jobs, I'm more than happy to come home and tinker with a Beetle till the sun goes down.

Okay on paper, but there's so many hop up parts for the stock 1600, (2180 kit) for a fraction of the cost. Should have kept my 69 VW Fastback, but resto ads up, would you ever get it back when selling? A. Who cares I love that car. B. There are cheaper also cool cars that cost less to run and fix. eg: I've got arousal for an early 70's Plymouth, even the Slant 6 would be fine. That two door mid sized body is a winner.

A few years ago I acquired a 66 Cuda from a senile old guy with a crazy laugh, who made jokes about being between Iraq and a hard place. I know, he got to me, a funny old fart. He gave me the car for some yard work, (plus a 60's Wolseley) but refused to sign the papers. It belonged to his dead OCD alcoholic brother, who got an impaired charge in it. Christine's younger more fit lighter equally evil cousin, yep.

I sold it for 650.00 no title out of frustration. At the time that's all they were going for on Ebay, or less. Still, it had the console shifter, and front fish logo. Wasn't running, needed brakes and stuff, but damn, a big window 'Cuda.

As for the 911 engine in a Bug- I've always wanted to do that. Yeah, there are a lot of hop-up parts for the 1600 (You can get big bore kits pretty cheap top make them a 2160cc), but the sound of a carburetted Porsche flat six screaming at like 4500 rpm is fucking SEXUAL, just sucking in raw air through those 6 barrels... mmm.

You can also use a Type 4 VW engine (From the type 4, VW Bug and Porsche 914... all based on the same thing), which ranged from 1.7 to 2.0 liters. Lots of sweet aftermarket bits for those as well, but more pricey.

A Subaru swap would be neat too, but you'd need to hide a rad somewhere.

was there an 1800cc Bug engine? I was told that was what we were rebuilding when my friend Sean blew his up back in 91. At the time, Sean was also lusting over a VW van because it had a 2000cc engine in it.
Also, what was so super about a Super Beetle? I know that it had Macpherson struts, but is that all?

I think the Super Beetle was an attempt at the Beetle growing up, I think it was larger and rode better?

Macpherson struts which allowed for a larger trunk (also allowed for the spare tire to be stored flat instead of upright), more aerodynamic nose, and starting in '73, a curved windshield and a "real" dashboard as opposed to the flat dash in all prior Beetles.

Front track was like 2" wider as well.

OH... and a Bug never came with an 1800. 1600 was the largest. It COULD have had a big bore kit...

Bus, Type 4 and Porsche 914 were all available with an 1800 though.

I want it.
