well kids, with the odometer at 172,000 miles, the waterpump failed on the Monte Carlo last night. Yep, it started dripping from the weep hole at the bottom of the pump and the accessory drive slung it all over the place... I bought the pump this morning for the paltry sum of $27... i actually drove the car today anyways, as the pump hasn't 'blown' yet... it's just almost blown. It's leaking enough where you wouldn't want to drive it very far.
Anyways, looking at it, this has got to be one of the easiest waterpumps to change I have ever seen.

Lucky. Last water pump I had to replace was on that '84 Toyota Tercel, that thing was a bitch to get to and $130 to boot. And then I flipped it a few months later, money down the freakin' drain.

i bought one of those Haynes manuals with the waterpump, just to have as a reference. It's useless. It's going back later today. Those books are fucking useless, especially after using Chiltons' and the GM factory manuals.

The Haynes Manual for my Isuzu Rodeo is pretty decent actually. Now, the one for my old 1995 Dodge Caravan was junk and I got the Chilton one actually.


Its 45.99 for a new fuel pump in my car as I just looked it up.

got the new waterpump in this evening. Car runs like a champ again... Really have to get after the intake gasket, however. It's leaking pretty badly.

arg fucking waterpumps, the one on my GTI took like 3 and half hours to install, atleast I got it for free cause some retard shop employee tried to scam me and i ended up getting him fired lol.

i think the easiest water pump ive ever seen was on my 04 dodge 2500 with the 5.9 cummins, two bolts and the belt, took all of 3 minutes.

this was probably the second easiest waterpump to install... numero uno had to be the 2.2L OHV in my 98 Cavalier... fucking cake. 15 minutes out and in. Bleeding the air out took a bit longer than it should have because I snapped the bleeder off.
after driving the car today, i've come to the conclusion that the water pump has been leaking for some time.

how this is so true.
what weirds me out about this particular water pump situation is that in my experience, water pumps just fail. They just blow everywhere. This one didn't. This leaked, seeped and then started to throw coolant, then didn't. I thought rear head gasket may have failed on me, but when we put the car on stands and got under it, the head seam was dry. The coolant was most certainly coming from the water pump. So, we changed the pump out and while we had the car up on stands, changed out the lower radiator hose... you should see where the thermostat is in the fucking thing! It's buried.

you're kidding right? smallblock chevy, even a v6, in a chevy pickup= RETARDEDLY EASY. I've changed water pumps on a 267 (4.4L) Chevy in an Impala in the dark using a watch for light...

I think it was the water pump? Me and him tried to put the new one on for hours. It was in a real tough spot to get to. It was near the bottom, We attempted to do it from the top. Could have been some other pump tho.

The ones on the US-SPec M3s WILL fail after 60k miles. Any longer and you're on borrowed time. It doesn't help that our coolant temp gauge doesn't tell you that you are going to overheat until it's too late. But Stewart makes a pump for our cars that is warrantied for life.

Hell I'm about to buy a water pump for my Silverado just to have it on hand when it does go out.

Shoot lets see, 12mm socket/ratchet, scraper, RTV and a 3/8' breaker bar for the idler. Add some dex and its a shadetree roadside job in under half an hour.

Waterpumps on GMs are notoriously easy for the most part.
