Does anyone else have any memories or pics of this place?
I remember when I was young (in the early-mid eighty's) and my parents lived between Trotwood and New Lebanon we would drive to downtown on W.3rd and I remember seeing the massive 300,000sq.ft boarded up Roosevelt High hulking along the side of the road.
I believe some of it was still being used as a rec center then, but it was obvious it's better days were behind it. The building always fascinated me, and I knew that cool stuff just had to be inside, but I was to young to do much about it.
I did know a neighbor of mine had attended there and he was nice enough to show me his year books from the mid thirties, but at the time that was about the limit of my research.
Now it's gone and I was wondering if anyone else remembers it.
Here is a really nice site dedicated to it's memory. The photo section is a must see, and be sure to check out the photo galleries of the "Fountains of Roosevelt", and the just for lack of a better word awesome "Indoor track". (The track is way cooler than it sounds.)
Seems like the track would have been a bit toasty in the warmer months. Note the link below only will only work properly with Internet Explorer. Maybe Chrome or Safari I don't know but not Firefox. http://www.roosevelt-hs-dayton.com/
