I wrote a dorky story about lights, and threw in a photo, and lo and behold, I won 4sevens' contest!

http://www.4sevens.com/fireworks09/

Glory and fame are mine! The prize was a choice from their new range of Quark lights, which'll be nice.

Cashing in on urbex, baby!

Good stuff! Now I just have to think up an enthralling torch-related story

Wow, that's great congratulations.

On another note I have lost many rubber tripod feet covers over the years and found that Manfrotto charges an outrageous price for replacements. That's when I went to Home Hardware and got the replacement covers for $1.50 each. You can probably go to most hardware stores and get them there, if you haven't already replaced them.

you never said what light you almost(than later did) lost, looks like an incan to me. Hope it was not a $urefire M6 or something expensive like that.

*edit* never mined, i seen your other thread, so i am guessing it was the jetbeam.

Funny you should say that - those are exactly what I use! I haven't lost any feet in ages, but for a while there, I was losing them all the time. I hate to think how much the genuine ones would have cost me.

Actually, no, this was before the JetBeam - it was a Solarforce T7, a kind of mid-range light (much the same style and price as a Fenix P3D). The reason it looks like an incan is that I had an orange ping-pong ball jammed on the end to colour and diffuse it

Sweet ya, the ones I have aren't quite as good as the real ones, I mean they have a tighter fit so they don't fall off as easily but I think I have had to replace one after using it heavily for a couple years because it wore right through. I remember going into Manfrotto to get replacements and wanted like $30 for 4 (outrageous) of them and that was a couple of years ago.

The story wasn't that dorky.

Congrats!

I chose the 1xCR123A light with the tactical switch, and with the 'neutral' tint emitter. I did like that they sell just about every combination of options like that.

The reason it's taken so long to ship is that warm emitter - they had a deadline for preorders before even manufacturing them.

It arrived today! I still feel like a kid when a package arrives at the door

So, first impressions are that it's much like a Fenix, with slightly fancier packaging and accessories. The box included a holster, a nice JetBeam-style strap and a rubber 'finger grip', none of which I'll use, but it's nice that they're there. A 4Sevens branded battery also came in the box, which I did appreciate.

The light itself has lots of knurling, which is great, and is nicely built. The model I have (1xCR123A) is the only one where the clip is not removable/reversible, since it's so short.

I've programmed the two modes on my light to the maximum and minimum settings. Maximum seems as bright as you'd expect (though supposedly the warm tint I've ordered is slightly dimmer than the regular one), and the minimum is extremely feeble - just right for the modern nocturnal trespasser!

One issue, though, that I had read about, is an initial flash of light when using moonlight (0.2 lumens!) mode. It's only slightly noticeable, unless you've just had it on max mode, in which case it's quite a bright flash indeed. Time will tell whether this is a problem in real life.

Overall, out of the box, I like it.

Just to reuse the images I've already uploaded , here's a quick comparison of the 'neutral' tint in which I ordered the Quark, and one of my regular lights.

I have other lights that are even colder by comparison, too (e.g. Solarforce L2 with an R2 emitter)

(white balance is the same in each case, of course)

I don't know that I desperately needed a warm-tinted light for day-to-day use, but it's nice to have something a little different.
