My cars AC wont blow cold at all, I popped open the little black cap, pressed it with a screwdrive and it gave a blast, so I know the system is charged. I think its because the compressor isnt turning on, any one have any experience with VW fail airconditioning?

I would go get a pressure gauge and check out what the pressure its at. Most cars should be at 40 PSI on their AC system.

Link from that post.
http://www.asashop...v2005/techtips.htm

“ The problem involved a 2000 Jetta GLS 2.8L manual A/C system with no compressor clutch operation. On this vehicle, the cooling fan and A/C compressor operation are controlled by the J293 fan control module, which is usually located in the driver's front corner of the engine compartment on the lower frame rail. The J293 module has both a 14-pin connector identified as the T14 connector in Volkswagen wiring diagrams and a four-pin connector identified as the T4a connector. ”

It, however, has not had working reverse lights for over 500,000 km.

2000 Buick Regal, 103,000 miles...works like it was brand new. Only thing we've done is replace the heating/cooling system fan in the dash board with one that was a little bigger than the original and will last probably till the car is junked for good. It heated and cooled just fine, it's just it didn't blow out of the dash vents.

Only crappy thing is that since my dad "accidentally" ran into the bumper this winter, dented the edge of the hood and smashed the grill...the fog lights no longer work.

From recharging AC systems in many cars, I find most of the problem is usually a teeny tiny leak at the hose line connection to the compressor itself.

its not leaking the system is fully charged, its not engaging, I checked the fuses for the AC clutch and its fine. I guess Ill test the voltage and work my way through the system.

Did you actually see the compressor clutch engage ?

I wasnt reffering to the fuses.

You can usally hear a loud "click" and a drop in RPMS

or

Just have someone hit your "AC" button while you look under the hood.

And also using your method of checking if the system is charged, it really doesn't tell anything. You need to check it with a gauge and not a screwdriver.

if the system is charged when you check the vavle it will shoot out, if its empty it will just fizzle. Yea I checked the clutch its not engaging, theres no drop of RPMs and the fans arent turning.

nismo, pick up a cheap set of guages, if you go to the p burger at walmart get a kit with 134 A (14$) and hook it to the upper valve, believe me even if your refrigerant is low it can still shoot out, the cheap guage will still tell you how much is in there. I also had a bad pressure switch in my car, i jumped it with a paperclip and the thing started. check the wiring to the AC clutch with a test light, if it doesnt come on when the switch is hit then you know its not the ac clutch.

also, especially in the northeast, the clutches will sieze up. You can sometimes free them by squirting pb blaster into the clutch while a helper cycles the A/C button
