| | | I've never heard much good (other than longer battery life) about mag-lite brand LED upgrades either the one that I'm talking about replaces entire head of the light. Rated at up to 600 lumen Seen here: http://www.battery...ger-tle-300mr.html And another that replaces the bulb only that is rated at 140 lumen Seen here: http://www.battery...n.com/tle-6k2.html And the other is just a Xenon (similar to the ones in streamlights and surefires) That goes in place of the original bulb, and is supposed to have a higher lumen rating along with improved efficiency. Anybody tried either of these? The reason that the first one appeals to me is the 600 lumen rating. That quite a bit and to get into any other lights with that type of output is a decent amount of money. A decent streamlight or surefire with 350 lumen or more is over $250 or more from what I've seen.

| | | A few people on CPF seem to like that first option with the three emitters - it certainly should be bright. The main alternative for that kind of brightness in that sort of price range is going to be something pretty cheap and dodgy, like this... ...which, incidentially, I ordered the day before yesterday It uses a quad-die LED, with a claimed 700 lumens output, though in reality it's probably a bit less than that. At $38.85, I'll take my chances, and not expect overly much - a decent brand light with that emitter is three or four times the price, after, all. But, back to the Mag thing - I think that first option looks pretty good, if you're looking for a way to hang on to the Mag.
