Hometown Chevrolet...I think they ran some TV ads in Albany saying "Buy from us because we are small!" or something to that effect.

I'm just amazed at the huge differences between dealers with GM. I'm so used to the Chrysler side of things where there a lot of the dealers have so many things uniform to them (right down to the store layout must be approved by Chrysler may I add.)

The salesman at Wentworth is a pretty decent guy. He's an old timer; he's going retire in a few years and has been a salesman for close to 30 years actually. He remembers before the 1970s gas crisis when he started out that people would buy GM cars at STICKER because they could! Which he admits screwed him over in the sales skill set for a while later on. He also works both the new and used cars there unlike most dealers. Like I said, I have a feeling I'll be coming back to him for the sale.

Yeah, right now using MSRP as the base price, I get $1500 in discounts PLUS the CARS program credit of $4500, which gets me to roughly 11,305. Which isn't too bad, but I want to try to get to at or below 10,000.

Hometown used to be known as Ross Chevrolet-Oldsmobile, but changed when Olds retired. They catered to the Great Meadows Correctional Facility crowd as did Vittengl Ford in Fort Ann.

funny you say that, up in this neck of the woods gm has spent the last 10 years standardizing its dealers. Its funny, in the recent closings there are a pantload of these standard GM dealers sadly 4-5 of them are boarded up. its the chrysler dealers that are odd! in my town there used to be 2 chrysler dealers, provost used to be in an un renovated lada dealer, i used to get a kick out of the lada terrazo in the service dept. Sauve Chrysler Jeep was in a former ford dealer, ther chrysler sign was put in the old single pole sign frame, the penta star in the square to one side of the pole and rectangular chrysler jeep badges on the other!

I think the GM dealers back in the day were allowed to live as kings in the gm system, we had a dealer in montreal Cummings Chev Olds, at the time you would have to get close to see it was a chev olds dealer, The Harrold Cummings signs were the biggest things on the place. Same went for other old line dealers here like snyder (just down the street from nismo) and Omer Barre in verdun

My dad is a personal friend of the owner of the dealership where my mom bought her vehicle. They still fucked her over on repairs.

Forget dealer mechanics... either do it on your own or find a reliable local mechanic.

i am lucky in the fact that my brother is a mechanic at Adirondack Chevrolet and I get my cars worked on at a much cheaper rate. The parts guy is an old friend of mine, so I get my brothers' discount on GM and Napa parts. Their sales staff sucks a fatty though.

I hate VW's service department. HATE. They seem to use the "throw some shit at the wall and see what sticks" approach.

When I was away last month, my dad's Beetle was acting up (low on power, smoking lots). He took it to VW, they scanned it, charged him $145 and couldn't tell him what was wrong with it, but thought MAYBE he could try a new ECU. He waited till I got back, I scanned it, watched a few numbers and determined it was a bad MAF sensor in about a minute.

Why couldn't the morons at the stealership figure this out? I don't know. It's a common problem on the TDI cars, too.

Went back to Wentworth Chevytown. I test drove the used 2006 Cobalt after it was checked out by the service department. For a refresher, it had 73,177 miles on it from the previous owner who bought it brand new back in 2006. Previous owner used it as a commute vehicle. From doing math, he drove round trip about 66 miles per day, which can be a common commute route in this area.

This car drives like its new; I can't tell the difference between this and a brand new 2009 Cobalt. Its in pristine condition; I don't think the previously did anything except drive it! He even had seat covers on them!

Now, here's something interesting. The dealer could not certify the vehicle as a GM Certified Used Vehicle because the previous owner put on different rims and different tires. He put in Pirelli tires and some aftermarket rims. Samarui, Bandi, know anything about this?

Service records showed the previous owner took it in at regular service intervals. Only thing major that was replaced was the shifter because that issue where the igniton would nut turn to start. I remember former UER member Pathwalker had that issue on his Cobalt and it was fixed the same way.

My only drawback here is that it can't be certified use, so I get no warranty like I would otherwise. It probably will go on to 200,000 miles, but I think it needs to be guaranteed by GM if its such a good car.

I'm still out there looking; I think I can get one of these salesguys to agree to at or below 10,000 for a brand new Cobalt.

GM put the wood to me over aftermarket wheels and tires on my black 2005 Cobalt. Mine was an early model car and had paint issues... GM's shitty service liason blamed it on the 15" Motegi MR7 wheels and BF Goodrich Radial T/A's I had on the car. Never mind that the factory Continentals were the worst fucking tires ever installed on a car. Never mind that their shitty performance almost got me killed. Never mind that the wheels I installed on the car were the same fucking size as the wheels I took off. Never mind that the tires on those fucking wheels were the same size as the tires I took off the car... i told the cunt on the phone that those most be some tires to be TAKING PAINT OFF THE FUCKING SPOILER!

when i traded it in, I brought the factory wheels, hubcaps and lugnuts back to the dealer.

Skelly, if they want to sell you that car that bad, they'll get 4 steelies that belong on it and four hubcaps and certify the fucker. Otherwise, tell them you're walking. You want a warranty. Don't fuck around. It's a buyers' market now. But in all honesty, after being on Cobaltss.net for a couple of years, 2006 seems to be a hit or miss year for niggling quality issues. Yes, i said it and i am a GM guy. I'd be confident of this car due to the mileage.

I think I mentioned it previously. But my friend timing belt broke on the highway and they found metal in the oilpan: had to replace the whole engine.

(Merc Sable 2002: 72k on it.)

$4000 Job. It cost him $106.00 with his warranty. It's definitely worth it.

What displacement V6 was it? I was under the impression that the 3.0L and 3.8L Ford still used timing chains?

Might have been the chain, he told me it was the "belt" but he is probably wrong.

He has the 200HP 3.0 L DOHC V6.

He has actually owned 3 white mercury sables in the last three years: all different years. Two LS (2000 and 2002)and one (1996) GS.

hmm... an SHO engine in a Sable?
are you sure it wasn't the 3.0L OHV V6 that came in just about all of them?

I know it is the LS premium edition. He's got leather seats and the sunroof. (which he now hates the leather seats) I'm pretty sure he has a DOHC badge on his car. I'll grab a few pics of his new engine next time I see him.

The Sable LS Sedan is powered by a 3.0-litre, 24-valve, Duratec V6 engine with 200 horsepower and 200 lbs-ft of torque.
