I just want to thank a group of 18-22 year old males for making my bike ride tonight so pleasant. I usually go for a ride really late, cuz I like the quiet, and I live in a safe place so I am comfortable in doing so. Well, I live close to a little park that younger people like to frequent at night. Usually they aren't there anymore when I go for my ride...but tonight I was greeted very fondly as I passed.

"oooh look.....ASS ON BIKE....I WANNA GET ME SOME FUCKIN ASS ON BIKE!!!!"

well, needless to say I felt all warm and fuzzy.....so I replied

"fuck you"

Which they then retorted with

"oh ya.... we'll fuck you RIGHT UP THE ASS!!!!" "CHORTLE CHORTLE HIGH FIVE"

I mean seriously....what makes people think that this is okay to yell at someone?

gawd. I shoulda stopped, rode up to them and said "okay....let's go".

never do that unless you have a knife hidden on you that you KNOW how to use. or pepper spray. or a mag lite.

I have to scare people out all the time at my work. if they come at you never flinch, it scares them if you are not afraid.

though leaving was probably the safest bet.

I totally disagree. There is no reason why she should have to shut up and take that behaviour. In fact, studies have repeatedly shown that those who get attacked are those who are perceived as victims, those that won't react or fight back.

I also don't think a lady has to be armed in order to stand up for herself.

I also don't think these kids had any intention of raping or maiming, just being obnoxious.

You clearly missed what I was getting at.

I've chased people off while totally unarmed.

I've also seen what happens when those kids do mean harm.

There are more of them then of you.

Every situation needs to be judged carefully.

I used to teach fourth grade at a school in the area, so chances are if they have younger brothers or sisters I taught them. Shoulda asked them how they felt about harassing their siblings' fourth grade teacher.

And I agree with Dresden and Argonian. On one hand I don't know exactly what they are capable of, on the other, I should be able to ride my bike in peace, and not have to deal with obnoxious assholes. I wasn't going to reply at all at first...just ride by. But then I thought to myself 'no, fuck this'. I was thinking what I would do if they continued, or got in their cars to follow and harass me.....

The safe bet is usually to turn the other cheek. I normally scowl and tell them off. If one of my female friends, specifically Amanda because she is like a little sister to me, is there then I will outright challenge them. I get really upset when people talk to Amanda like that. Once a guy with his friends in his thirties or forties grabbed her, she shook him off and he just stood there catcalling as she walked away. I turn and informed him that he was never to speak to her and that if he did not shut up I would help him face fuck the curb. He shut up.

I am aware that one day this will probably get me hurt. But how many times has it protected someone I care about? If I ever get hurt, it's worth all the times I have ensured the safety of someone that matters.

but honestly, it's even more pathetic when someone that old acts like they are a fuckin kid. Rude boys.

I have a long, rich history of being attacked, stalked, foricibly detained, etc. by numerous people. That was all when I was afraid to react in any way. I would just freeze. I wouldn't defend myself, I wouldn't run and I wouldn't scream. The second something in me switched and I started talking back the shitstorm ended. I was no longer a victim and to this day I really hate fear mongering, because that, in part, is what made me such a wonderful victim.

To honestly answer your question, I wouldn't have heard them because I always have headphones on when I ride my bike. If, by some chance, I did hear them, yes, I would have told them to fuck themselves. Also, I believe, that just like in her situation, it wouldn't have resulted in any violence and it also wouldn't be very rewarding, but it would be better than keeping silent.

There's a movie called Grand Canyon. In it, Kevin Kline takes a shortcut home after a Lakers game and ends up with his car crapping out on him in an unfamiliar, unsafe neighborhood. He calls a tow truck. While waiting, the neighborhood asstard gangstas begin their intimidation on Kline. Just when things begin getting scary, the tow truck driver, Danny Glover, speeds in and diffuses the situation. One of the thugs shows Glover his gun. Glover asks if he can just do his job. The thugs persist in intimidating. Finally, Glover says that Kline should be able to order a tow truck and Glover should be able to do his job - that's the way the world is supposed to work. The thug asks Glover if they'd even be having this conversation if the thug didn't have a gun and Glover said no way in hell.

Anyways, the point is, spirit730 should be able to ride her bike on a trail without fearing any kind of verbal or physical attacks. The guys she encountered are asstards, like the dudes that recorded themselves shooting a family of ducks. One hopes that they will get what they deserve one day in the form of a beating. Maybe then they'll learn their lesson.

Respect is treated so cavalier. No one seems to give a fuck about anyone else.

The world isn't going to get better until asstards change. Change is what is required. And, revolution ALWAYS begins at home, preferably in the bathroom mirror.

Failing that, I hope those guys get a beating after someone decides they're not going to take their asstardian dickery.
