The Corvair club around here hosts the "Orphan Auto Picnic". An "orphan car" is considered any car that has been discontinued for over 20 years, and is not the direct predecessor to a current automobile being produced.
This is where you see all sorts of oddball and rare cars. I brought my Fiero to this show and two others showed up. Didnt get pics of the black one with the 350 V8 swap.

i've hard an orphan car and it takes real love to have one. It was an 86 Merkur XR4Ti. Bulletproof engine... shitty fucking drivetrain. Both manual and automatic transmissions were too weak for the car. The 5-speed was an a Pinto RAD-style 4speed with an overdrive cog tucked into it. The automatic was a weak C3 3speed... The preferred swap was a T5 from a Thunderbird Turbo Coupe, but those were getting hard to find, even in 1999. After the transmission in mine died, I sold it to another Merkurphile over in Vermont who used it for parts.
this is my friend who came up from Tennessee back in July with his 86 Fiero GT that had 154,000 miles on the odometer. Never missed a beat up or back, over 2400 miles round trip.
