Craigslist Headaches

I post on Craigslist. In the beginning, it seemed to be a wonderful tool to get rid of stuff I no longer had use for.

But lately, I find myself waiting around for people who tell me they are going to show up, and never do. What the f#ck is wrong with these people?! I've started telling them right from the get-go that if they can't make it, changed their minds, found something else, etc, just to call or email let me know.

Recently I have posted a condo that I have for rent. It is a FOUR HOUR job for me to show this condo, as it is a vacation home and a 3 hour round trip for me. I have people email the shit out of me about the place; then never show up. Or if they do show up, they don't have jobs, or on the brink of bankruptcy, etc. WTF??? I don't ever remember CL being such bullshit before.

I recently had a guy come and purchase a wood stove from me. He showed up (on time, no less) and asked if someone was around to help him load it into his truck. Luckily, my cousin was there, but what if he wasn't?? This guy couldn't have loaded this thing by himself. After he got it into his truck, he started trying to dick me around about the money; was trying to pay me $75 less than what we had agreed on. I said "If you think for one minute that I won't have you bring this back in my cellar, your wrong". Then he actually THREW the money at me and left.

I had another genius come to pick up a large swingset with an SUV. My bf actually loaded it into his truck and delivered it to his house (45 minutes away) just so we could be done with it.

Gggrrrrrrr

I only post for random anonymous sex in public places, and Craigslist has never let me down.

...but seriously. If I spent my time waiting around for No Shows, I'd still have shitloads of stuff kicking around. If Dude isn't here within 30 minutes of the pre-arranged time, I tell him I already sold the item...even if it's still sitting in my yard. If Dude tries to haggle over the agreed price, I tell him there's another buyer willing to pay more.

This is why you don't load anything into the car until they have paid you for it.

I drove 45 minutes to meet someone that wanted to buy a set of wheels from me once. They inspected them and considered them to be in better shape then I listed them. He then offered me $100 less then we had agreed upon. Since they were still in my car I closed the hatchback and got ready to leave. He quickly went back to the previously agreed upon price.

As for the no shows that really sucks. Perhaps you should start charging them a $100 refundable visit fee that they get back if they do show up. Use PayPal or an escrow service. Should help weed out a lot of the BS people.

The only thing I've ever sold on craigslist was my old mattress.

I put it up and got like 7 calls that very day.

Some woman was the first to arrive, she needed it for her son, as they had just moved to the neighborhood and he needed a place to sleep until they could get him a real bed. I sold her just the (at least) 14 year old mattress (the ad was for the box spring and frame too, but she didn't want those) for $40!

I was maybe 17 or 18 at the time. Which brings to mind the question, who buys a mattress from a teenager for their own child?

Poor kid.

Who buys a used mattress? I mean no issues if you can sell it but I am never going to buy one.

I sold a load of old Red bricks i no longer needed from a remodel of my backyard. some contractor wanted them, He showed up on time but came in a CIVIC.. I asked how the heck he thought he was going to transport 3,000 pounds in brick in a civic. He told me that he expected ME to load them them up and follow him 2 hours in MY truck.

I laughed in his face told him to get lost and sold them to someone else.

Craig's list blows these days.

I have had some good luck with CL in the past. I've never had a problem selling kid items, and my bf is in autobody and sells all his cars on there in no time.

I guess my issue is with the people who consume my time by not showing up after emailing me half a dozen times about something.

Just give me a courtesy call saying "SORRY I'm not going to make it over there".

My neighbor has better luck because she posts "Free Delivery of Item within 20 miles" and then she's going to THEIR homes.

But that doesn't help me out with showing the condo. And the realtors want too much money for listing them for you.

I still say you charge people a $100 fully refundable deposit that they get back if they show up at the showing. This should help weed out the BS people.

I'm currently trying to sell an LCD monitor that came free with a computer I ordered. I have no need for it and it goes for $230-250 new so I figure I'd list it at $200 and if people offer me $175 I'd sell it for that. I've gotten some great offers:

- $125
- a BMX bike
- an old crappy dresser
- $100

I just got the $100 offer from some random idiot and responded for that price I would saw it in half and he could pick which half he wanted. We'll see if I can string this out into something that would be worthy of http://dontevenreply.com/

Even brand new, without warranty, without truly knowing if it was a rebuild, damaged, stolen, ect. it is only worth about $100.00 since it can be bought new for only $250.00 Buyer takes all the risk.

Overpricing is getting CRAZY right now on craigslist. People really need to learn what their shit is worth !

Irritates the fuck out of me when I make a non-lowball reasonable offer and they think their shit is worth so much ROFL. Then I get an email a week later from them accepting my offer and I tell them no and I get a nasty email back.

Get these tards off C-list please.

Yep - I love this. They think they are posting a gold mine and then when NOBODY responds, they are calling you back ready to take your offer.

I had some guy practically stalking me over a damn cell phone. I responded to his ad and just asked a question about it. After he answered my question, I even responded with a THANKS.

He kept emailing me even after I told him I wasn't interested. Knocking the price down, willing to deliver it to me, and that "I better hurry up because he had all kinds of other people wanting the phone".

Finally, I wrote back that he should one of those other people before he lost the sale, and that possibly he overlooked my previously email in which I told him I wasn't interested.

Damn.

I was done with CL a long time ago. Just before X-mas we found a 1st car for our daughter that seemed perfect. My husband went and looked at it and found it to be good for her first car. Since it was late on a Saturday we gave the guy a deposit and said we would be there Monday evening with the remainder. Now comes the call Monday morning. Ummmm I drove the car to work and since there was sooo much snow I packed the radiator and overheated it, I would understand if you want your deposit back, let me know. Oh hell ya I want my deposit back, he cooked a Neon.

i was offering it with a copy of the reciept for warranty work and it had the factory anti-tamper tape still wrapped up around it. i'd be perfectly willing to let someone open it up and check it out, of course after they had showed that they had the cash.

at this point i'll probably just hook it up to my new iMac and play around with dual monitors.

Heres a good one: I'm sure you've all heard of the scam where you get an email from a supposed "friend" asking you to send him money because he's out of state (or even out of the country) and he lost his wallet.

I had a guy from CL write to me over the course of a month about renting my condo. First he was switching jobs, then his daughter was in the hospital, but he was still very interested, blah blah blah.

Today I get an email from him saying he's in England at some sort of HIV/AIDS convention and he left his wallet in the cab. He doesn't even have money for food and he's asking me to send him $3500 and "he'll pay me back when he gets home".

ROTFLMAO - are you KIDDING me??
