Well, the Prius and hybrids in general are more of a "gap" technology as it for the most part uses existing parts to make a new vehicle. Its a gimmick that kind of works. I just don't care for the idea that the gas and electric motors are mechanically linked into the same gearbox; its not the most efficient use of either motor types and one of them is going to be dragging down the other.

My dream alternative engery car is something like a Ford Ranger with a small Caterpillar diesel genset that is electrically connected to a electric motor much like modern locomotives work. You have the diesel genset working at its most efficient speed providing and the electric motor that works efficient at any speed pretty much.

Guys remember, the Prius is harmony between Man, Nature, and Machine. Everything is gonna be alright.

who was the racer that had AEM as a sponsor a couple of years ago? He had an Insight with the K24 in it. It was almost illegal it had so much of a weight advantage. Wasn't there a CRX that was uber lightweight? HF or something?

Want a highly fuel-efficient crossover SUV? Build yourself a 4 seater, rear-engine CRV with a hayabusa engine.

One of my buddies built one... 45mpg highway with a 15000rpm red line. Quiet enough cabin, and plenty of storage in the front engine cavity that he converted into a trunk. Seated 4 a bit tightly, but was very doable.

Oh, and it's not a POS fucking hybrid.

Mitsubishi rally racer/x-games guy/etc, Andrew Comrie-Picard's daily driver is an '86 CRX HF. He actually has a pair of them, both in pretty nice shape.
