My Golf is having some lighting issues. The low beams havent been working ever since we got the car a couple of months ago. The previous owner did something to the harness and i had to remove the housings by taking the bumper off, and redo all the wiring. Now that the wiring is fixed, i have no passenger low beam. Its easier to explain like this:

Engine on., E-brake off
Driver side low beam ON
Passenger side low beam OFF

Engine on, E-brake on
Driver side low beam OFF
Passenger side low beam OFF

Engine on, light switch turned clockwise
Driver side low beam ON
Passenger side low beam OFF
Driver side inner ON but dim
Passenger side inner ON but dim

Engine on, light switch turned clockwise, brights switched on
Driver side low beam ON
Passenger side low beam OFF
Driver side inner ON (bright)
Passenger side inner ON (bright)

How do the daytime running lights work on this car? Are the low beams supposed to be on, or are the inside bulbs supposed to be on and dim? I know i have an issue with the passenger side low beam, but i need to figure out how the daytime system is supposed to work before i start poking around in the relays and switches for problems. Also, wtf is up with the e-brake turning off the low beams? Ive only done this while parked, not while driving.

Ive been reading VWVortex for days and i cant find anything about this. Maybe you VW nerds can provide better content.

Definitely some screwed up crap going on then. Check out these pics.

Engine ON, headlight switch OFF, E-brake ON

Engine ON, headlight switch OFF, E-brake OFF

Engine ON, headlight switch ON

Engine ON, headlight switch ON, brights ON

Going by what you tell me about the DRL's, they should be ON when the engine is running and the E-brake is off, right? I need to figure out why the DRL's only come on when the headlights are switched on instead of when the engine is running, why the driver low beam is stuck on at all times, and why the passenger low doesnt come on at all. Is there a magical control module somewhere that goes bad?

Fuckin electrical...

My DRLs were on with the e-brake off on my MK4 Jetta, which was the 9007 bulb, so the lower beam.

It just seems like a bad connection or something for your passenger lower beam. Your driver one seems to operate correctly, at least that's how my MK4 was.

Oh, excellent. Looks like ill be tracing a wire all the way to the switch, which we all know is fun.

There was a wire grounding on the passenger side and blowing the fuse. Fixed the wire and replaced the fuse.

You should of too

I've in doing two-way radio installs, blown a few fuses with not reading fuse block diagrams wrong when tapping the fuse block on some cars.
