Not sure what to think about this one. Definitely not a kids movie. I loved the book as a kid and was really hoping for this to be a nice rendition, but it was more like a melodramatic plot with irritatingly bitchy characters. It wasn't too bad. Instead of leaving thinking to myself, "why did I sit through that?" I thought, "WTF just happened?" And, "why so many damn lens flares?"

One good thing, I think they did a really nice job making the characters "come alive". They looked fantastic. I'd give it a 2 out of 5.

What'd you guys think?

I think there is going to be a "how it should have ended" on this one.
http://www.howitshouldhaveended.com/

Along the lines of this...

This is the story of Max who ran away to a land filled with monsters...
Max, "Hi!"
Wildthing, "What are you?"
"A human boy!"
Wildthing, "I love humans!" NOMNOMNOM (Eaten in One Bite)

THE END.

But that wouldn't be very age appropriate.

"No risk, no reward, no fun."
"Go all the way or walk away"
escensi omnis...

The movie wasn't age appropriate to begin with. And if it was one bite, wouldn't it just be NOM?

The book is not age appropriate, honestly, which is why I loved it as a kid, and why I loved reading to my kids. It's also why my kids read Gahan Wilson books.

Before seeing it, I had a theory that their interpretation was going to be that Max was completely insane and lost in a psychotic delusion. In the end, it really wasn't too far from that.

We took our kids, ages 7 and 10. We all cried for 5 minutes after it was over.

I wouldn't have ended it any other way.

mutantMandias may cause dizziness, sexual nightmares, and sleep crime. ++++ mutantMandias has to return some videotapes ++++ Do not taunt mutantMandias

mutantMandias is something more than human, more than a computer. mutantMandias is a murderously intelligent, sensually self-programmed, non-being

There is no utopia. There is only life, and life is what you make of it.

I don't think this is a bad message for kids at all. Am I alone in thinking this?
